The "Supporting Farmers" program for the period 2023-2025 is jointly organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper, GreenFeed Vietnam Joint Stock Company, the Provincial Farmers' Association, and the Provincial Youth Union.
In 2023, the program provided interest-free loans to 40 disadvantaged farming households in Vinh Thai and Vinh Tu communes, Vinh Linh district, with each household receiving 20 million VND over two years, along with free animal feed worth 3 million VND.
The total funding for the program is 920 million VND. These are households facing difficult circumstances, determined to overcome poverty sustainably, and whose children have overcome hardship to excel in their studies. Additionally, 40 scholarships worth 1 million VND each were awarded to students with excellent academic achievements who are children of participating farming households.
Following the initial support, to maximize the effectiveness of the loan capital, the Capital Management Board closely coordinated with staff of GreenFeed Vietnam Joint Stock Company in Quang Tri to implement training and investment consulting activities for livestock production suitable to the households' conditions and reduce risks in using the capital.
Accordingly, all 40/40 households used the loan capital for the purposes and needs they registered for. The initial capital was mainly invested in purchasing breeding stock, repairing barns, and purchasing additional animal feed and veterinary medicine to prevent diseases in livestock.
As a result, after one year of implementing the capital, chicken and pig farmers have produced their third batch, beef cattle farmers have invested in their second batch, and breeding cattle farmers have harvested one batch. Specifically, for broiler chicken farmers, with a scale of 100-200 chickens per batch, after 3-4 months of raising, they earn a profit of 2-4 million VND per batch; for pig farmers, with a scale of 3-5 pigs, after 4 months of raising, they earn a profit of 3-5 million VND per household; for buffalo and cattle farmers, the total herd size has increased from 21 to 29 animals, with a raising time of 10-12 months, averaging a profit of 6-10 million VND per beef cow.
According to assessments, after one year of implementation, the "Supporting Farmers" program has demonstrated effectiveness and profound humanitarian value. Farmers have accumulated livestock farming experience, supported and shared with each other, and encouraged the stabilization and development of household economies . From savings after each breeding cycle, households have funds for their children's education, reducing the burden of tuition fees, books, and school uniforms for the new school year.
