The TV series "Southern Land" has become a classic for Vietnamese audiences. Among its characters, many have become icons, such as the role of Uncle Ba Phi played by artist Mac Can (right).
In 2023, director Quang Dung decided to make a film version of the film, titled "Dat rung phuong nam". The role of Uncle Ba Phi in the film was given to Tran Thanh. This made many people curious and controversial because Tran Thanh was too young to play the role of Uncle Ba Phi. However, director Quang Dung still believed in Tran Thanh's acting ability.
