On his personal page, Mr. Erick Thohir wrote: “With respect, PSSI and Coach Kluivert will end everything. Thank you for being a part of the journey of the Indonesian team.”
Notably, coach Patrick Kluivert was not the only one fired by PSSI. All of his assistants, including Gerald Vanenburg - coach of the Indonesian U.23 team and Frank van Kempen - coach of the U.20 team, are also no longer working.
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) said the decisions were made when the organization held an important meeting to "review internal movements" this week. In particular, the fact that the Indonesian team suffered two defeats and failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup was the last straw, causing coach Kluivert to lose his job.

"This termination of cooperation was made by mutual agreement, taking into account the internal dynamics and strategic direction of the future development of the national team. PSSI expressed its appreciation for the contributions of all members of the coaching staff during their tenure. This step was taken as part of a comprehensive review of the national football training and development program," PSSI wrote.
What is Indonesia's goal?
Mr. Erick Thohir also shared more about the goals of the Indonesian team after parting ways with coach Kluivert: “Thank you to all the fans, players, families and officials who fought and supported the Indonesian team to be able to advance to the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, this is the history of Indonesian football. We will evaluate and determine the next goal of the Indonesian team, which is to be able to enter the top 100 FIFA, play well in the 2027 Asian Cup, and aim for the 2030 World Cup”.
