Quickly fix the lighting system in Cua Lo ward

Since storm No. 10 and consecutive natural disasters, the lighting system in Cua Lo ward has been severely damaged, affecting daily life, security, order and urban beauty.

Over 90% of the neighborhood lights are broken.

The current situation of paralyzed lighting in residential areas is a hot issue in many blocks and hamlets in Cua Lo ward. According to the reflection of the Executive Committee of the blocks, the damage rate in some areas is over 90% after big storms.

Mr. Hoang Van Truong - Head of My Thang block - the block with the largest area in the ward shared: "Due to its proximity to the sea, the block's lighting system was severely affected after storm No. 5 and storm No. 10. Over 90% of the lights on the inner-village roads were damaged."

Mr. Truong added that up to now, the lighting system in My Thang has mainly come from socialized sources, so its sustainability is not high. After the storm, in addition to broken lights, the connection points were broken, causing the power supply to the block to be interrupted, seriously affecting daily life. My Thang block has just spent nearly 42 million VND to repair the internal power grid system after two storms No. 5 and No. 10.

Mr. Phan Van Hai - Head of Binh Minh Block said: "After the storm, all the light bulbs and some lamp posts on the roads in the hamlet were completely broken and needed to be replaced. Without electricity, people's lives faced many difficulties and their safety was not guaranteed."

In Binh Minh block, each household pays 250,000 VND/year for electricity for lighting. Although the block executive committee has been on duty for dozens of working days to repair the project, the limited investment resources make the project unsustainable, and the risk of further damage after a big storm is very high.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh (Nguyen Sinh Cung Street) worried: “Traveling at night is very difficult. In areas far from the center, even with headlights, we still feel nervous every time we pass through sparsely populated areas…”.

Fix the lighting system soon

At the ward level, the public electricity system also recorded a lot of damage, although it has been largely repaired.

Mr. Hoang Minh Tho - Deputy Head of the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of Cua Lo Ward said: "After two storms No. 5 and No. 10, the lighting system on the coastal promenade was completely damaged. Lighting, decorative electricity and household electricity were all affected."

Fortunately, the storm coincided with the low tourist season, so it did not affect the tourist experience too much. Currently, the Department of Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Areas is urgently reviewing all damaged technical infrastructure, from lighting, decorative electricity to traffic lights for timely replacement. Mr. Tho added that out of 30 inner-ward roads, there are currently about 5-7 routes without lighting and some traffic lights are not working. These lights are mainly located on routes that have not been handed over or are waiting to be replaced.

Regarding the recovery plan, Mr. Tho shared: "In the coming time, the unit will continue to advise the Ward People's Committee to mobilize resources to promptly repair and restore the lighting system, decorative electricity in particular and technical infrastructure in general, to best serve the 2026 tourist season."

In addition, one of the existing problems that has been reported by people since the beginning of 2025 is the lack of lighting on National Highway 46. This is a key route, with many large trucks (containers, cargo trucks) passing through and is the main traffic axis of many workers from Nam Cam Industrial Park, WHA. Although the route is managed by Road Management Area 2, the lighting is managed by Cua Lo Ward. When large vehicles pass through this route at high speed, it is difficult to observe small vehicles, especially rudimentary vehicles.

Ms. Le Thi Mai, a worker at Nam Cam Industrial Park, worried: “Previously, this road section had a fully renovated system, but after the storm, it is no longer bright. Dry weather is still acceptable. The rainy season and winter are coming, and traffic participants' visibility will be even more limited. Failure to maintain and ensure lighting on this road poses many potential risks of traffic accidents.”

In response to the people's feedback and recommendations, the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward has responded to the direction of resolution. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward said: "After 2 storms, not only in Cua Lo, the difficult situation of power infrastructure is happening in many localities. Although we really want to share and support the people, the government must prioritize funding for more important items. In the immediate future, the lighting system in the neighborhood still needs the proactive socialization and mobilization of contributions from the people."

Regarding the power outage on National Highway 46, a hot spot for accident risks, the Vice Chairman of the Ward People's Committee explained: The damage to the lighting system on National Highway 46 was due to the construction of the coastal road, which caused the power line system to be cut off and cannot be reconnected yet. We are urgently working with Nghi Loc Electricity to quickly fix the power outage in some areas. This problem will be resolved soon to ensure safety for people participating in traffic./.
