(BGDT) - After two years of implementation, Plan No. 66 of the People's Committee of Bac Giang City on "Improving the quality of teaching and learning English in kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in Bac Giang City for the period 2021-2025" has created changes and achieved many results, meeting the requirements ofeducational innovation.
Diversified teaching and learning models
The Department of Education and Training of Bac Giang City has directed kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools in the area to strengthen and innovate English teaching and learning. Many schools have done a good job of socialization, mobilizing investment resources for this work; maintaining and managing English teaching and learning with foreigners. Up to now, 100% of students from grades 3 to 9 have studied English according to the 10-year English program.

Students in grades 1 and 2 are allowed to choose an English-learning program. In addition, the Department has piloted English teaching for 4-5 year old children at 4 kindergartens in the ward and commune: Le Loi, Da Mai, Ngo Quyen, Tan My. English teachers in the city are able to participate in training courses to improve their professional skills and teaching methods, with foreign lecturers. At the same time, information technology is applied to teaching; professional activities at school, school cluster and city levels are enhanced.
The Education sector has strengthened the dissemination and training of teaching methods, innovated the testing and assessment of students' learning outcomes. Schools have actively built an English learning environment through activities such as: English listening and speaking clubs, decorating foreign language classrooms, foreign language learning corners, English exchanges between schools, and organizing English festivals for students. In recent years, 100% of primary and secondary schools have established English listening and speaking clubs and maintained regular activities; organized exchanges between clubs in the same school or schools in and outside the city.
Many schools have actively innovated English teaching and learning, such as Dinh Ke, Dong Thanh, Ngo Si Lien primary schools; Le Quy Don, Tan My, Dinh Ke secondary schools. At Dinh Ke Primary School, every Tuesday and Thursday, each class spends the first 15 minutes of class time for students to speak English based on a topic. Once a month, during the flag salute, the school's English listening and speaking club and the grades and classes organize exchanges. Classes decorate their study corners based on a topic in English and Vietnamese.
Schools have made more than 1,200 English-speaking video clips and posted them on the City Education Department's Facebook page, attracting more than two million views from teachers and students. They also encourage students to participate in national and international competitions such as IELTS, TOEFL, IOE, "Because Bac Giang is good at English", the online English learning platform Future Lang, and solving Math problems in English... These activities help students express themselves, develop their English listening and speaking skills, learn, share learning methods, and gradually improve their skills and qualifications.
Improve communication skills
The quality of English teaching and learning in schools in Bac Giang city is increasingly improved. 100% of English teachers have university degrees and meet training standards. Secondary schools ensure the number of teachers teaching 3 periods/week/class according to the 10-year English program. Primary schools teach 4 periods/week/class; all English teachers meet the B2 foreign language proficiency framework, many teachers meet the C1 proficiency framework, exceeding the regulations.
The quality of English teaching and learning in schools in Bac Giang City is increasingly improved. In fact, the qualifications and teaching methods of teachers and the English listening and speaking skills of students have changed significantly. The rate of students achieving the A1 competency framework at both levels has increased, exceeding the set plan. In the 2022-2023 school year, 89.3% of grade 5 students achieved the A1 competency framework, exceeding the plan by 8.3%; 76.1% of grade 9 students achieved the A1 competency framework, exceeding the plan by 14.1%.
The movement of teaching and learning foreign languages in schools is vibrant and of high quality; many primary and secondary school students have good English communication skills. The results of the entrance exams to grade 10 of high school, the entrance exams to Bac Giang Specialized High School and the provincial-level English competitions for excellent students in cultural subjects of the city are always at the top of the province. At the same time, the city's students have also won many high prizes in national and international competitions.
Promoting the achieved results, the City Department of Education and Training continues to direct schools to regularly pay attention to innovating English teaching methods for teachers through organizing training courses to improve teachers' teaching methods. Building an English learning environment in schools, maintaining good English clubs, organizing many English experience activities such as English festivals, English exchanges in and outside the province.
Encourage and guide schools to actively cooperate in organizing English teaching and learning with foreign teachers. Replicate good models in improving the quality of English teaching and learning. Thereby creating a breakthrough in the quality of English teaching and learning at all levels; improving students' English proficiency, improving the quality of human resources for international integration.

Nearly one million candidates completed the English test, the final subject of the high school graduation exam, on the afternoon of June 29. Of the more than one million candidates nationwide, more than 90% chose English as their foreign language test. However, before the exam, nearly 47,000 candidates were exempted from taking these 10 tests and had their scores counted because they had international language certificates, equivalent to IELTS 4.0 or higher.
