According to Military, the French MdCN (Missile de Croisière Naval) cruise missile, often seen as the naval version of the SCALP, was developed from the SCALP-EG platform with a range believed to exceed 1,000 km, some sources even estimate it can reach about 1,400 km, carrying a 300 kg warhead.

This weapon has entered mass production and is officially in service with the French Navy. When deployed on surface ships, the MdCN uses the A70 Sylver vertical launch tube with a height of about 7 meters, allowing integration on modern destroyers.
The MdCN is essentially a ship-launched cruise missile, with extended range thanks to improvements from the SCALP family. Tests began in 2010 and by 2015 the system was operational, after which it was widely deployed on French warships and submarines.
The key difference compared to the SCALP-EG lies in the addition of a solid-fuel booster to increase range and a narrower hull diameter to accommodate a 533 mm torpedo tube, thereby expanding its underwater combat capabilities.

MdCN is used to attack strategic targets, such as command posts, military infrastructure, airports, and logistics warehouses located deep in enemy territory. Launching from the sea environment gives the French navy the ability to attack long-range from outside the danger zone, creating a strategic advantage in modern warfare.
The MdCN cruise missile is the standard version developed by MBDA for the French Navy. The MdCN has two main launch configurations. The surface-launched configuration is deployed via the Sylver A70 tube on the FREMM destroyer with a longer launch tube design to accommodate the first stage booster, suitable for operations to expand the fire area on large sea directions.
The submarine-launched configuration is carried out via a 533 mm torpedo tube with a watertight launch module that protects the missile before it rises to the surface, providing the advantage of secrecy and the ability to approach the target from multiple directions.

To date, only one country has used and deployed the MdCN missile, and that is France. The MdCN is a long-range strike weapon developed by MBDA under the exclusive order of the French Navy and is not exported to any other country.
According to sources, France may currently possess a total of about 150-200 MdCN missiles, including both surface-to-surface and submarine-launched versions. This number is enough to equip several naval battle groups, but in the long term, France may need to add more if it wants to increase its long-range strike capabilities.
