The number of domestic tourists in August 2023 was estimated at 9.5 million, a decrease of 24% compared to July 2023; an increase of 18.7% compared to the same period in 2022; of which approximately 6.3 million were overnight visitors. For the first eight months of 2023, the number of international tourists reached 7.8 million and domestic tourists 86 million.
According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the new visa changes aimed at facilitating international visitors to Vietnam are considered a breakthrough, removing difficulties and bottlenecks, and creating new momentum for Vietnamese tourism.
Tourists also enjoy many advantages in terms of administrative procedures, time, and itinerary when traveling to Vietnam. This is also one of the factors that attract international tourists to Vietnam and enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry.

However, the head of the National Tourism Administration also stated that the most difficult issue, visa policy, has been resolved. Nevertheless, that is only a necessary condition; the sufficient condition for Vietnamese tourism to become more attractive, enhance competitiveness, and create a stronger appeal to international markets requires a series of more comprehensive solutions.
"To meet the needs of tourists visiting Vietnam in the coming period, we need many solutions to quickly take advantage of this new policy mechanism. Localities and businesses need to focus on investing in infrastructure and services, and introducing new products to meet the needs of international tourists who will stay longer and spend more when visiting Vietnam in the future...", Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh emphasized.
To anticipate the expected increase in domestic and international tourism in the coming period, localities and businesses need to prepare internal factors such as training tourism human resources to meet both quantitative and qualitative demands, as well as ensuring professional skills and foreign language proficiency, thereby creating quality services for tourists.
In particular, localities also need to improve destination management to ensure the security and safety of tourists. Combining all these factors will create unique and attractive products and services, enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese tourism, and create significant appeal for the industry in the future.
