CBS reported on December 1 that after investigations last month, the government of Bologna, Italy is preparing for the possibility that the leaning tower of Garisenda could collapse at any time.

The tower was built in the 22nd century and began to lean in the 14th century. The tower is nearly 50m high and currently leans about 4 degrees, a smaller angle than the famous Tower of Pisa (5 degrees).

Local authorities have taken many measures to maintain the integrity of the tower over the years.

In October, local authorities decided to fence off the area around the tower to ensure the safety of residents and build structures to protect other buildings in case the tower collapses.

A city spokesman said: "A new report by experts says the tower is at significant risk of collapse, so we need to be prepared for any eventuality."

According to local media, experts have been concerned about the integrity of the tower since 2022. However, it was not until this past October that sensor readings measuring the movement of the ancient towers led to an alert, forcing the area around the tower to be closed off and traffic on the roads around the tower to be temporarily halted.
