North-South railway reopens after freight train collides with truck in Ha Tinh

(NLDO) - Hundreds of workers and many machines and equipment have been working hard after the incident of a freight train colliding with a truck to clear the North-South railway line through Ha Tinh .

Speaking to the press, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation , said that after 9:00 a.m. this morning (March 2), the North-South railway line through Duc Lien commune, Vu Quang district, Ha Tinh province, was officially opened. The H15T freight train pulling 24 cars 337 m long with a total weight of 640 tons is the first train to move through this section of the route.

The North-South railway line has been reopened after the accident.

Previously, right after the traffic accident between the cargo train HH62-D18E607 and a truck on the night of March 1, paralyzing the North-South railway, the railway industry mobilized 3 large cranes and hundreds of workers to carry out rescue work with the goal of clearing the North-South railway through Ha Tinh as quickly as possible.

At 6:00 a.m. on March 2, the locomotive and three freight cars of train HH62-D18E607 that overturned off the track were moved out of the accident area and brought to Hoa Duyet station for repairs.

At the same time, workers from bridge and road units and signal information units deployed repairs and restoration of traffic infrastructure on the route.

Upon completion of the rescue work, the unit inspected and determined that the rail system was safe for train traffic, so the line was cleared.

Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, at about 7:50 a.m. on March 1, the cargo train numbered HH62-D18E607 was running on the North-South railway line, in the North-South direction, passing through Lien Hoa village, Duc Lien commune, Vu Quang district, Ha Tinh province.

When reaching Km358+600, the train collided with a truck with license plate number 26C-03288 driven by Phan Van Hanh (born in 1994; residing in Hop Duc village, Huong Minh commune, Vu Quang district). This vehicle crossed the railway crossing but "stall", stopping on the tracks.

The strong collision caused the freight train to derail and overturn.

At the scene, train HH62-D18E607 was damaged, 3 carriages, 1 locomotive overturned, the rail system at the collision point was damaged for about 50m. The front of the truck was completely deformed. The incident paralyzed the North-South railway line through Vu Quang district (Ha Tinh).
