The meeting took place on the occasion of the two Prime Ministers attending the Special Summit commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations.
This morning, March 6th, in Melbourne, Australia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on the occasion of their joint participation in the Special Summit commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Cambodia on its recent economic development achievements and on the successful organization of the 5th Senate elections. According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the election results further affirm the leading role and position of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) in the country. The Vietnamese Prime Minister extended his warmest congratulations to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Chairman and senior leader of the CPP, and respectfully conveyed greetings from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and key Vietnamese leaders to King Norodom Sihamoni and Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers expressed their pleasure at the stable development of bilateral cooperation in recent years; the leaders of both countries maintain regular high-level visits and contacts; and bilateral cooperation mechanisms continue to be effective. The two Prime Ministers agreed to further enhance the effectiveness of economic, trade, and investment cooperation; strengthen the connectivity between the two economies, especially transportation links, as a basis and new impetus for strengthening cooperation in other fields. They also agreed to continue coordinating the effective implementation of existing agreements and mechanisms on defense and security; and to strive to resolve the approximately 16% of unfinished border demarcation issues in order to build a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and sustainably developing border between the two countries. Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed to continue paying attention to and creating favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local society, and serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries; while also facilitating Vietnamese businesses investing and operating in Cambodia. He proposed increasing the frequency of flights between the two countries to enhance tourism and trade connectivity. The two leaders also agreed to continue close cooperation between the two countries, as well as with Laos and Thailand, to connect transportation, link tourism, and exploit the tourism potential of these countries.
