Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives Chairman and CEO of SCG Group

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts, determination and results of SCG Group (Thailand) in implementing investment and business activities in Vietnam.


On the afternoon of December 2, in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Thammasak Sethaudom, Chairman and CEO of SCG Group (Thailand) - the investor of the Long Son Petrochemical Complex Project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province with a total investment of more than about 5 billion USD.

SCG is a corporation operating in the fields of cement and construction materials, packaging production, and petrochemical products.

Currently, SCG has 27 member companies in Vietnam with 15,500 employees, total investment in Vietnam is up to more than 7 billion USD; in which, the petrochemical complex project in Long Son commune, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province has a total investment of about 5.156 billion USD; designed capacity is 1.4 million tons of petrochemical products. Currently, the project has completed construction and put into operation.

At the meeting, the Group's leaders reported on the situation of the Long Son Project and the investment expansion plan, and made a number of specific recommendations and proposals, including attracting the world's leading technology partners to co-invest.

SCG Chairman thanked the Government, ministries and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province for accompanying SCG in resolving difficulties and problems.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts, determination and results of SCG Group in the process of implementing investment and business activities in Vietnam; suggested that SCG continue to promote business results and expand cooperation and investment, aiming for new and higher goals in the coming time.

Affirming that the Vietnamese Government is very interested in the Long Son Petrochemical Project, the Prime Minister said that immediately after receiving the information, he assigned Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to have a working session with Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, directing relevant agencies to promptly handle SCG's recommendations. Ba Ria-Vung Tau province will actively and proactively work with ministries and branches to handle these recommendations, thereby effectively restructuring the project.

Regarding the proposal related to guiding procedures for the Long Son project to attract the world's leading technology partners to participate in the joint venture, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and relevant agencies to urgently study and guide the necessary procedures, ensure compliance with regulations and promptly report to the Government for consideration and resolution of issues beyond its authority.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government, ministries and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province are committed to continuing to accompany and create favorable conditions for SCG Group's projects to invest in effective business and develop sustainably in Vietnam with the viewpoint of "harmonious benefits and shared risks"./.
