Regarding the progress of the Long Thanh airport project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that "the goal is to complete it by December 31, 2025, and begin operations by February 28, 2026."
This morning (December 3rd), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a government delegation inspected the progress and held a working session at the Long Thanh airport project in Dong Nai province . At the construction site, the Prime Minister and the delegation visited, presented gifts to, and encouraged the workers. The Prime Minister also personally went to the 4th floor of the passenger terminal to observe the construction of the roof trusses – the “heart” of this modern airport. This is the 5th time the Prime Minister has inspected the Long Thanh airport project site.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting with relevant ministries, agencies, and localities. At the meeting, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) reported on the construction packages, which involved hundreds of construction teams with nearly 7,000 experts, engineers, and workers, and nearly 3,000 pieces of equipment. Construction was carried out scientifically , professionally, and safely. Regarding the passenger terminal (package 5.10), the consortium of contractors has completed all reinforced concrete columns, beams, and floor slabs from the 1st to 4th floors. Over 16,800 tons of steel for the main roof frame have been fabricated, manufactured, and painted (reaching 60%), and 11,570 tons have been installed (reaching 40%).The Prime Minister requested that all relevant parties organize their work more closely and ensure the project's synchronization. In addition, the procurement and ordering of glass facades, main terminal roofs, terminal equipment, etc., are being implemented through contract signing with suppliers. Completion, equipment installation, system connection, and trial operation will begin in early 2026 and aim for completion before August 31, 2026. Furthermore, ACV proposes the establishment of a Steering Committee for the preparation of Long Thanh Airport for operation, with the Ministry of Transport taking the lead and coordinating the overall process. ACV also requests accelerating the implementation of component projects 4 to ensure connectivity and synchronization during the operation of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1; and expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway before September 2, 2026, to ensure synchronization and efficiency when the airport is put into operation. The Prime Minister inspects the Long Thanh airport project site. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the progress of the Long Thanh airport project. However, he noted during his on-site inspection that the workforce was disorganized and lacked coordination. The Prime Minister requested that the construction unit, upon completion of the first floor, immediately proceed with interior work, completing each stage in a phased manner. If necessary, relevant parties should mobilize additional subcontractors, police, and armed forces to assist, as further delays are unacceptable. Furthermore, the Prime Minister requested that all relevant parties revise the critical path of the project schedule, ensuring a phased and coordinated approach to work. "All parties need to focus their time and intellect, working 24/7, not in three shifts or four teams anymore. Anything lacking or needed, and any mechanisms required, must be reported for resolution. The goal is to shorten the timeframe by six months, completing the project by December 31, 2025, and commencing operations before February 28, 2026, instead of waiting until August 2026," the Prime Minister emphasized. The Prime Minister presents gifts to workers constructing the Long Thanh airport project. In addition, the Prime Minister also noted the need to expedite the development of the "airport city," designing the two districts of Long Thanh and Nhon Trach with approximately 500,000 people, along with city-standard zones, to maximize the development of a synchronized ecosystem when the airport becomes operational.
