On the afternoon of December 4, the U22 Vietnam team had a training session at the stadium of RBAC University (Bangkok) after the opening match, winning 2-1 against U22 Laos at SEA Games 33.

Speaking before the training session, striker Nguyen Quoc Viet said: "The team spirit is very good. But it's a bit regretful that we didn't score many goals. After the match, coach Kim Sang Sik encouraged us: the first match is always difficult, getting 3 points is good enough."

Quoc Viet was the one who was flagged for offside by the linesman and was also believed to have blocked the vision of the U22 Laos goalkeeper in the situation where Dinh Bac scored.

"What did you and your teammates say when you reacted to the linesman about Dinh Bac's disallowed goal?", the reporter asked.

Quoc Viet replied: "Knowing that there was no VAR in the match, we protested to the referee. But I didn't think the referee would change his decision."

Quoc Viet also affirmed that he and his teammates in the attack played well, just could not take advantage to score many goals.

He said: "Yesterday we all played well. The team had many opportunities but could not take advantage of them. So in the second match, the whole team will try to improve and try to score many goals."

Quoc Viet also said that the midfielders and strikers of the U22 Vietnam team are playing well, but the finishing is not really effective.

"What tasks did coach Kim Sang Sik assign you in the attack?", the reporter asked. Quoc Viet replied: "Whoever enters the field must try their best. If they have the opportunity, they must perform. The striker must definitely have the task of scoring goals. It's a pity that I couldn't score yesterday."

Evaluating the opponent U22 Malaysia will meet in the final round of the group stage on December 11, Quoc Viet said: "I haven't seen U22 Malaysia play much. But through the matches with them, I feel confident going into the upcoming match. Surely U22 Vietnam's goal will be 3 points."
