Midfielder of Vietnam U23 team determined to create special memories at home

For the first time in history, a player from Phu Tho will participate in an official international tournament at Viet Tri Stadium. That is midfielder Nguyen Xuan Bac of the Vietnam U23 team, as he and his teammates prepare to enter the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers – Group C.

In Group C of the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers, the Vietnam U23 team will have the presence of midfielder Nguyen Xuan Bac, a player from Phu Tho . This is the first time in history that a player from the homeland has competed in an official international tournament at Viet Tri Stadium.

Sharing his feelings about this special opportunity, Xuan Bac said: “This is the first time I have returned to my hometown to compete. I also hope that fans will come to the stadium to cheer not only for me but also for the team so that we can achieve the best results.

I have been away since I was young, so people in my hometown mostly cheer me on via television. This time playing in Phu Tho, my family and relatives can come directly to the stadium to cheer me on, which will be a great source of inspiration for me. I am very proud of my hometown Phu Tho."

In terms of expertise, Xuan Bac is a midfielder with a good sense of organization, capable of escaping pressing and distributing the ball effectively. Although he does not have a physical advantage, he still plays a good role in controlling the rhythm in the midfield, bringing softness but certainty to the playing style of U23 Vietnam.

Outstanding performance at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament helped Xuan Bac be voted into the typical squad, becoming the only central midfielder of U23 Vietnam to participate.

Previously, in the 2024-2025 National First Division, the young player was also in the typical lineup, alongside Nguyen Hoang Duc - one of the leading midfielders in Vietnamese football.

Assessing his personal development process, Xuan Bac affirmed: “The recent journey in U23 Southeast Asia was quite new to me, and it was also the first time I played a lot in the national team. That was a great source of motivation for me to continue to strive to develop further.”

The appearance of Nguyen Xuan Bac in Viet Tri not only has personal significance but also becomes the pride of Phu Tho fans. With stable performance, eagerness to learn and support from home fans, the young midfielder is facing the opportunity to assert himself in the continental arena.
