Orphaned at the young age of two, Phan Thanh Long (15 years old, from Hoa Tien commune) has long lived with his elderly and frail grandmother. In their small, simple house, the two rely on each other, surviving on meager meals of rice and vegetables.
Knowing Long's circumstances, since December 2021, the Huong Sen Charity Club has been sponsoring him, providing him with a "Huong Sen Scholarship" of 500,000 VND per month to help him focus on his studies. Thanks to this support, Long has consistently achieved good academic results for many years. Recently, Long passed the entrance exam to a public high school.
Similarly, the Huong Sen Charity Club also provided support to Nguyen Quoc Huy (a 11th-grade student from Thuong Duc commune). Huy lost his father at a young age, and his mother works as a laborer to support the two brothers' education. Overcoming his circumstances, Huy always strives and achieves high academic results.
“Thanks to the monthly scholarship from the club, I have the funds to cover my studies, easing the burden on my family,” Huy shared. The case of Xa Van Quoc (a 6th-grade student from Thang Truong commune) is equally challenging.
Quoc was orphaned at a young age and lives with his elderly grandmother, who is unable to work. Understanding Quoc's difficulties, since April 2022, the Huong Sen Charity Club has provided him with a scholarship to help him buy books and school supplies, enabling him to continue his education.
The city's Red Cross Society announced that the aforementioned cases are three of the 30 students in the city who recently received scholarships from the Huong Sen Charity Club to support their education. All of them are from impoverished or near-impoverished families, orphans, or have particularly difficult circumstances, yet they have always overcome challenges to excel in their studies. Each scholarship, worth 3 million VND, is a practical gift that greatly encourages them, helping them to be more confident in their learning journey and strive for a better life.
According to Mr. Dao Kim Long, Head of the Huong Sen Volunteer Club, the "Huong Sen Scholarship" program, launched in December 2021, provides regular support of 500,000 VND per student per month to 30 underprivileged students. The program aims to share some of the difficulties, support, and empower orphaned children and those with particularly difficult circumstances on their journey to education.
According to Dao Kim Long, besides maintaining the "Huong Sen Scholarship" and "Bicycles to School" programs, the club also implements many programs to support disadvantaged children and students, such as: providing study corners, donating health insurance cards, supporting students to school after the flood season, providing meals in mountainous areas, keeping them warm in the winter, and offering free summer classes… The total budget for these programs to support students to school is over 500 million VND per year.
“The club is always open and transparent in receiving and using support resources, complying with legal regulations. This has earned the trust and contributions of benevolent people near and far. This is a valuable resource for the club to effectively carry out activities caring for children and students, providing motivation for those in difficult and disadvantaged circumstances to overcome challenges in life,” shared Mr. Dao Kim Long.
