NDO - On the afternoon of September 27th, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received the German Ambassador to Vietnam, Helga Margarete, on the occasion of the start of her term of office.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Ambassador Helga Margarete on her new assignment in Vietnam, expressing confidence that the Ambassador's experience would make a positive contribution to bilateral relations. The Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the continued positive development of Vietnam-Germany relations after nearly five decades, particularly following the visits of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in November 2022 and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in January 2024, which have created new momentum for the two countries. Currently, Germany is Vietnam's largest trading partner in the European Union (EU), with trade turnover exceeding US$11 billion in 2023 and over US$8 billion in the first eight months of 2024; educational relations between the two countries are developing positively, with over 7,500 students studying in Germany and the Vietnam-Germany University project operating effectively. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the German government's efforts in creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work stably in Germany. Looking ahead to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025, the Prime Minister proposed that both sides coordinate meaningful activities such as high-level delegation exchanges, organizing German Days in Vietnam, and Vietnamese Days in Germany... to further deepen cooperative relations. The Prime Minister hoped that both sides would take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), urged the German Parliament to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and encouraged the European Commission (EC) to lift the IUU "yellow card" against Vietnamese seafood, strengthening cooperation and mutual support in international and regional forums.![]() |

On this occasion, the Prime Minister thanked the German Government for its large-scale support to Vietnam with vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as Germany's visits and assistance through multilateral mechanisms in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam. German Ambassador to Vietnam Helga Margarete expressed her honor to be assigned to Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam is a key partner of Germany in the region and pledging to make every effort to promote bilateral relations. On this occasion, the Ambassador shared her condolences for the loss of life and property suffered by the Vietnamese people after Typhoon Yagi and stated that Germany will continue to support Vietnam through multilateral mechanisms. Ambassador Helga Margarete highly appreciated the positive developments in bilateral relations and agreed to coordinate with Vietnamese agencies to implement activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Appreciating Vietnam's role in international and regional forums, they stated their desire to further promote bilateral cooperation in all fields in the future, especially education, training, skilled labor, and climate change adaptation.
