The visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam demonstrates the desire to cultivate a lasting and enduring Sino-Vietnamese friendship that will be passed on to future generations.
This was shared by Ms. Vu Thuc Hue, a Sino-Vietnamese friendship activist and former medical staff member at Nanxishan Hospital (Guilin, Guangxi, China), in an interview with a VNA reporter in Beijing ahead of the state visit of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to Vietnam.
According to Ms. Vu Thuc Hue, President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam is not only a diplomatic act, but also a symbol of the friendship between the Chinese people and the Vietnamese people. He is an ambassador of friendship representing 1.4 billion Chinese people.
President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam will undoubtedly further promote extensive cooperation between China and Vietnam in the fields of science and technology, industry, agriculture, transportation, health, and other areas; further promote cultural exchanges, thereby strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.
Ms. Vu Thuc Hue shared that the friendly neighborly relationship between China and Vietnam is becoming increasingly close. As a Chinese citizen, she feels responsible for remembering and cherishing the friendship between the two countries. She believes that if both governments and leaders work together, this traditional relationship will continue to flourish and become even more brilliant in the future.
Ms. Vu Thuc Hue emphasized that amidst the constantly changing regional and global context, the friendly neighborly relations and fine historical traditions between the two countries remain unwavering. Previous leaders laid a solid foundation for this friendship with their blood, sweat, and efforts, and therefore, the younger generation needs to promote and strengthen cultural exchanges, transportation cooperation, economic cooperation, etc., to deepen the feelings between the two countries. Leaders of both countries need to remain steadfast in their beliefs, guide the future of bilateral relations, and foster even closer friendship between the people of the two countries.
Ms. Vu Thuc Hue also expressed her hope that under the leadership of the high-level leaders of the two countries, China and Vietnam will always cooperate and develop together; and wished that the friendship, "both comrades and brothers," between the people of China and Vietnam would last forever and be passed down from generation to generation.
In 1968, Ms. Vu Thuc Hue began her journey of dedication to the Vietnamese people. At that time, Vietnam was in the midst of a just war of resistance to defend its territorial integrity. The Chinese government provided multifaceted support to the Vietnamese people. One of the important projects was the construction of the Nanxi Mountain Hospital in Guilin, Guangxi (China) to care for wounded and sick Vietnamese soldiers.
The hospital was established with the participation of 278 medical staff from major hospitals in Beijing, under the direction of Prime Minister Zhou Enlai. Ms. Vu Thuc Hue, then only 20 years old, was one of the young staff members assigned to participate. According to her, over the course of eight years, Nanxishan Hospital treated 5,432 wounded and sick Vietnamese soldiers, performed 2,576 surgeries, and donated 779,220 ml of blood to wounded and sick Vietnamese soldiers.
She herself has voluntarily donated over 1,000 ml. She has been honored to participate in many important events in Vietnam, such as the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory; and attended meetings of Sino-Vietnamese friendship figures hosted by General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh… ./.
