This feature was first introduced at the 2009 Widespread Developers Conference (WDC). To date, Find My includes a friend search function (Find My Friends) and AirTags compatibility across all Apple devices.

Recently, in an interview with YouTuber SuperSaf, Apple's Senior Vice President of Services, Eddy Cue, shared that the idea for this feature came about in a surprisingly simple way.
Accordingly, the tech giant's Find My ecosystem actually started with an intern. Cue said that the now-popular tool for forgetful users came from "the idea of someone losing their phone on the sofa."
"I remember one of the first things we discussed was that the solution had to bypass the phone's silent mode if the user had it on, otherwise you wouldn't be able to identify the device," the Apple executive said.
Find My iPhone was first released in 2010, alongside iPhone OS 3, and was initially only available to paying members of the now-defunct MobileMe service.
With the introduction of iCloud in 2011, this feature was offered free of charge to all users. Later that year, Find My was expanded to Macs with "Find My Mac" and has since been pre-installed on all iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches.
And now this feature isn't just for electronic devices, but also for people and lost luggage.
Find My Friends, an app that allows users to share their location with each other, was announced in 2011, one day before Steve Jobs passed away.
Ten years later, AirTag was launched, allowing people to track personal items using a physical tracking device now common for luggage, keys, and other accessories.
Other companies have introduced similar technology, such as Google, which announced in early April that its Find My Device feature would be available for Android phones and tablets.
