PVFCCo - Phu My accelerates AI application in operations, preparing for a breakthrough phase after DBI 3.0.

DNVN - In order to accelerate digital transformation and develop AI working capabilities throughout the system, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo – Phu My) has implemented an in-depth AI training program tailored to each function, with the participation of all departments at the Corporation and Phu My Fertilizer Plant.

Build a foundation of AI-first thinking and practice it on real-world processes.

Unlike conventional skills training, the program aims to change mindsets, standardize processes, and integrate AI into practical tasks within each business unit. The program is designed and implemented by the AI expert team ofFPT Digital – FPT Group, who have partnered with Phu My in building the digital transformation roadmap, standardizing data, and advising on AI-first methodologies. The participation of this expert team ensures the program is both technologically up-to-date and tailored to the specific business operations of the chemical and fertilizer company.

The program, designed and taught by FPT Digital's AI expert team - part of the FPT Group, attracted over 200 employees from various functional departments and the Phu My factory.

Through this training program, participants are equipped with an AI-First mindset, recognizing the role of AI in operational functions, as well as how AI supports data processing, information aggregation, cross-referencing, and reducing document processing time. Interdepartmental processes such as Order-to-Cash and Procure-to-Pay are simulated using real-world data, allowing participants to clearly see how AI can shorten operation time by 50–70% and reduce the risk of errors. This forms the foundation for developing AI-specific processes within each department.

During the program, trainees from various departments practiced directly on their own unit's data and processes. This approach helps AI move beyond being just a "support tool" and become an integral part of operational processes, solving specific problems in each business area.

At the Phu My Fertilizer Plant, AI is integrated into practical operational tasks such as equipment data analysis, early anomaly detection, predictive maintenance modeling, and shift reporting standardization. Operators practice summarizing technical documentation, automating shift handover recording, compiling production-consumption-downtime data, and designing incident response procedures using automation tools. These applications open up possibilities for smarter operation, reducing downtime risks and improving production efficiency.

In Finance and Accounting , AI is used to generate accounts receivable reports, reconcile revenue, standardize data, and support payment control. Large Excel/CSV files are automatically read and analyzed by AI, extracting information from invoices, contracts, and receipts to perform reconciliation according to the 3-way match principle. This allows departments to create a set of templates for checking the validity of documents – a crucial foundation for reducing risk and building an early warning mechanism in the financial and payment cycle.

Meanwhile, in the Safety and Commercial Engineering area , AI helps shorten the time spent reviewing supplier profiles, extracting and comparing information from quotations, and cross-referencing technical standards and ESG criteria. The process of analyzing supplier conformity becomes more consistent and systematic, while the Commercial department can handle multi-format quotations, quickly synthesize market information, and look up internal procurement processes, increasing transparency throughout the supply chain.

Phu My employees participated in the training session.

In Business, Marketing, and Communications, AI is used to analyze weekly reports from dealers, identify demand trends, and build customer profiles to support production and distribution planning. Sales staff standardize product consultation content, research sales policies, and personalize messages for different customer groups. In the communications field, AI helps transform technical specifications into easily understandable content, draft scripts, suggest ideas, and optimize messages, significantly shortening campaign implementation time.

For Legal and Human Resources Management , AI helps standardize and accelerate many complex tasks: searching for legal documents, reviewing contracts, drafting meeting minutes, and building streamlined recruitment processes. HR staff are guided on how to use AI to screen CVs, compare CVs and job descriptions, and assess candidate suitability; when combined with automation tools, the entire process can be reduced to under 30 minutes. In the legal field, AI assists in compiling clauses, standardizing documents, and reducing research time.

Phu My employees actively participated in the training session, gradually promoting AI-First thinking throughout the entire corporation.

The most important aspect of the program is not the number of tasks supported by AI, but the fact that each department has begun to re-evaluate its own processes from a new perspective: which processes can be standardized? Which data needs to be cleaner? Which steps can be automated?

The training series has contributed to shaping the capacity for proactive and methodical AI utilization, directly linked to the goal of optimizing processes and accelerating operations. This is also an important preparatory step for Phu My to enter the phase of deploying Agentic AI and end-to-end automation in 2026-2030.

Launching a smarter operating model.

With the foundation already built, Phu My possesses a strong basis for making AI a core operational capability in its chemical and fertilizer business. Practical exercises in each department have opened up possibilities for standardizing processes, accelerating information analysis, enhancing transparency, and improving the quality of decision-making.

Building on this foundation, Phu My is ready to expand from "task-based AI application" to "AI-first process design," moving towards smarter, more accurate, and more efficient operations in the coming years.

DBI (Digital Business Indicators) is a set of indicators used to assess the level of digital transformation in a business. Upon reaching level 3.0, PVFCCo will have a consistent strategy and implementation plan; core processes will be digitized and interconnected across systems; and management decisions will be made based on real-time data.
