General Secretary proposes promoting the establishment of a cooperation mechanism between the Vietnamese and Bulgarian National Assemblies

Meeting with the Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly, General Secretary To Lam proposed promoting the establishment of a cooperation mechanism between the two National Assemblies as well as promoting the bridging role of the Friendship Parliamentary Group.

Continuing important activities within the framework of his official visit to Bulgaria, on the afternoon of October 24 (local time), in the capital Sofia, General Secretary To Lam met with Chairwoman of the Bulgarian National Assembly Natalia Kiselova.

The President of the Bulgarian National Assembly warmly welcomed the official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Bulgaria.

Emphasizing the importance of General Secretary To Lam's first visit to Bulgaria, National Assembly Chairwoman Natalia Kiselova affirmed that Bulgaria highly values ​​and supports the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, a reliable and important partner of Bulgaria in the Southeast Asian region.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his delight at leading a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to pay an official visit to Bulgaria on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations; and thanked National Assembly Chairwoman Natalia Kiselova and the Bulgarian National Assembly leadership for their warm welcome to the delegation.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam sincerely thanked Bulgaria for its wholehearted assistance to the Vietnamese people in the past struggle for independence and national reunification and in the current national development.

General Secretary To Lam also thanked Bulgaria for helping train tens of thousands of students, postgraduates, experts and skilled workers in many fields for Vietnam, thereby making practical contributions to Vietnam's development, as well as helping to foster friendship between the two peoples.

The General Secretary informed about the good results of the talks with President Rumen Radev and the two sides' adoption of the Joint Statement upgrading the Vietnam-Bulgaria relationship to a Strategic Partnership, opening a new chapter for bilateral relations, creating new momentum to promote the extensive, substantive and effective development of the relationship, thereby contributing to the all-round development of each country.

National Assembly Chairwoman Natalia Kiselova congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements; emphasizing that the new stature of the relationship reflects the strong development and strategic connection between Vietnam and Bulgaria, which is of great significance at a time when both countries are entering a new stage of development and in the context of many fluctuations in the world situation.

At the meeting, the two leaders emphasized that parliamentary cooperation is an important pillar in the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in the coming time, including increasing contacts and exchanges of high-level delegations and between the Committees of the National Assembly of the two countries to exchange information and experiences, creating a favorable framework to promote cooperation in areas with much room, suitable to the development needs of the two countries such as science and technology, especially information technology, pharmaceuticals, high-tech agricultural products, etc.

The two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing cooperation documents signed between the two governments, especially in the fields of science and technology, agriculture, education, etc.; and promote the signing of new agreements and cooperation mechanisms in the context of the two countries having just upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership.

General Secretary To Lam proposed promoting the establishment of a cooperation mechanism between the two countries’ National Assemblies as well as promoting the bridging role of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group; and asked Bulgaria to soon implement visa exemption for Vietnamese citizens to increase investment attraction and people-to-people exchange in a sustainable, effective and substantive manner.

At the same time, the two sides need to continue to strengthen coordination at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums (Inter-Parliamentary Union - IPU, Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Conference - ASEP, Francophone Parliamentary Union - APF) to contribute to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to promote relations between the Bulgarian National Assembly and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

National Assembly Chairwoman Natalia Kiselova affirmed that the Bulgarian National Assembly will actively support and promote the implementation of cooperation directions stated in the Vietnam-Bulgaria Joint Statement on establishing a Strategic Partnership.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam conveyed the regards and invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to National Assembly Chairwoman Natalia Kiselova to visit Vietnam./.
