Project overview: 80 billion VND

The Ho Chi Minh City government has approved the investment plan for the construction of two pedestrian bridges over Ton Duc Thang Street, connecting the city center with Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1. The project has an estimated total investment of approximately 80 billion VND and will be implemented under a Build-Transfer (BT) contract, fully funded by the investor and without using state budget funds.

The main objective of the project is to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing high-traffic areas, while also creating additional architectural features and public spaces along the Saigon River waterfront.

Location and detailed design

Two pedestrian bridges are strategically located, connecting busy thoroughfares with riverside spaces.

Bridge at the intersection of Nguyen Hue and Ton Duc Thang streets.

This bridge will be built right in front of the Majestic Saigon Hotel, directly connecting Nguyen Hue pedestrian street with Bach Dang wharf. The design includes a system of staircases, spiral staircases, and elevators on both sides to serve the public, especially people with disabilities and the elderly. The architectural highlight is the curved steel arch above, creating a modern and elegant image for the area.

The undulating steel arch design creates a striking feature for the pedestrian bridge in the Nguyen Hue Street area.

The second bridge, located near The Landmark building, is designed with a lattice arch architecture and a predominantly green color scheme, harmonizing with the surrounding greenery. This structure is also equipped with staircases and elevators at both ends. This design is part of a plan to renovate Thai Van Lung Street into a civilized urban space with a strong cultural imprint.

Upgrading piers B and C - Ba Son

In addition to constructing two new pedestrian bridges, the project also includes the renovation and upgrading of the adjacent B and C berths of Ba Son. Specifically:

  • Pier B: Will be repaired, cleaned, and have additional fences, railings, and access bridges installed. This area will also be enhanced with landscaping, lighting systems, and public amenities.
  • Pier C: Planned to be renovated into a "flower island," increasing green spaces to create a relaxing environment for residents and tourists.

Funding sources and implementation schedule

The total investment of 80 billion VND is allocated with 50 billion VND for the two pedestrian bridges and the remainder for the renovation of the bridge and dock area. According to the BT agreement, the investor will have the right to install LED screens for political campaigning combined with advertising and to operate certain services in the area to recover their investment.

Regarding the schedule, the two pedestrian bridges are expected to be completed before April 30, 2026. The items at bridges B and C will be completed before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.
