Accordingly, the 10th grade admissions process in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year is expected to combine both selection based on academic records and entrance exams.
According to Mr. Quoc, the proposed plan for 10th grade admissions for the 2026-2027 school year, submitted to the Director of the Department of Education and Training, is as follows: Admission to 10th grade in public high schools in certain special areas will be based on selection criteria; public high schools in other areas will admit 10th grade students through an entrance exam in three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language.
This aims to maintain stability and facilitate matters for parents, students, and schools following the merger of Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , and Ho Chi Minh City.
Maintaining the stability of the three subjects in the entrance exam for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026-2027 school year—Vietnamese Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language—aims to stabilize and facilitate the process for parents, students, and schools after the merger of the three provinces.
Before the merger, Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language were the three subjects for the 2025 10th grade entrance exam in Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Ho Chi Minh City also maintained these three subjects as the 10th grade entrance exam subjects for many consecutive years.
Previously, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Van Hieu, issued directives regarding the enrollment process for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City (new) for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested the Department of General Education (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training) to coordinate with the Quality Management Department to propose a plan for the 10th grade enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year as early as September 2025 so that students and teachers in educational institutions can be informed and oriented in their teaching and learning activities.
At the same time, the Department's Office is requested to take the lead in developing a plan to determine the coordinates of all educational institutions in the city in preparation for the enrollment of first-grade classes for the 2026-2027 school year.
