An artist who isn't brave enough to speak their mind and sings only for fame and money is fine, but they're not a true artist.

This is the perspective of musician Tran Tien when sharing about the Tran-Nguyen folk song project, a series of art programs by musician Jimmii Nguyen in collaboration with musician Tran Tien.

A project that had been in development for 20 years has finally come to fruition.

Musician and singer Jimmii Nguyen shared that he had been nurturing the idea of creating the Tran-Nguyen folk music program for the past 20 years. However, due to many unforeseen circumstances, the program has only now come to fruition.

The traveling music project received support from musician Tran Tien. However, due to his age (nearly 80 years old) and limited mobility, musician Tran Tien could not participate throughout the project and travel to all parts of the country.

"I will participate in the first edition of Tran - Nguyen's traveling music in Hanoi and hope to participate in many more editions until I pass away," shared musician Tran Tien.

According to the plan, the traveling music project will travel to all regions of the country. The destination will be anywhere there are music lovers, stopping in a different province or city each month.

The guest performers are beloved singers and artists who wish to contribute to the community.

"The aspiration of the traveling musicians is to go to places where audiences yearn to see, interact, share, and send messages of love."

"We want to leave our mark and create lasting memories in the places we visit by building libraries, digging wells, and renovating schools… using all the profits from the program," Jimmii Nguyen explained.

Tran Tien likes to sing for people who can't afford tickets.

Composer Tran Tien shared that "du" means to travel, and "ca" means to perform (to perform what one desires). Traveling and singing resonate with the community regarding love and patriotism, unlike stage performances.

"Writing wherever I go is my way of being a nomadic musician. I write about what I see with my soul and heart, especially my heart," the musician confided.

He said that an artist who isn't brave enough to speak their mind and only sings for fame and money is fine, but they're not a true artist.

Composer Tran Tien expressed that a true artist sings for music lovers. "Poor laborers have never seen me perform on stage because they don't have the money to buy tickets. That's also the inspiration for my song ' Little Sun '."

"I like singing for people who can't afford tickets; those are the people I truly love. Those who can afford tickets to hear me sing are also my loved ones, but I love the poor more than the rich," shared musician Tran Tien.

Sharing further with Tuoi Tre Online , musician Tran Tien said: "The program is not about introducing new songs, but about artists singing what all audiences know, which is folk music; that's what folk music is all about. I will be singing adapted folk songs in the program."

Composer Jimmii Nguyen affirmed that the program brings to the audience many old songs in very old versions praising the homeland and the country.

The program includes many songs by composer Tran Tien. He revealed that he will translate one of Tran Tien's songs into English to be performed in the program.

Director Huy Nguyen stated that the music in Tran - Nguyen's travelogue is a dialogue, bringing everything back to its original form and without any staging.

Musician Tran Tien is the first guest in the series of folk music programs.

The first show is scheduled to take place on the evening of January 19, 2025, in front of the Hanoi Opera House, hosted by MC Van Hugo.

Known for writing many excellent commissioned songs, Tran Tien explains that it's a gift from God, and nothing under his pen can be rented; everything is his own flesh and blood.
