Thao Nguyen Phuong has been pursuing the art of yarn weaving for nearly 10 years - Photo: Provided by the artist.
The Fiber Art Exhibition at Artera Space (115 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi , running until November 7th) is considered a pioneering event in fiber art (not embroidery) in Vietnam, offering many surprises and delights for viewers.
A truly "wow" exhibition.
At the Yarn exhibition, a small, charming guestbook and pen were readily available for visitors to record their feelings and send them to the artist. Many messages were written in the guestbook, with the most frequently shared feeling being "truly wow" at the artist's meticulousness, attention to detail, and patience.
A colleague shared his feelings about Thao Nguyen Phuong's expressive and impressive writing style and encouraged her to continue in that direction.
Many others expressed their admiration for Thao Nguyen Phuong's "lonely but very impressive artistic journey," which has created works that left them "truly overwhelmed and moved."

Thao Nguyen Phuong said that it sometimes takes her 5 months to complete each painting in this exhibition, and sometimes it takes her more than 2 years.
Unlike traditional embroidery artists who create designs and then embroider, Thao Nguyen Phuong lets her emotions flow through the threads and needles. Her entirely hand-stitched paintings, layered with threads, create a thick surface with depth and vibrancy.
Each painting is the result of millions of meticulous, unwavering needlework by young people passionate about exploring new emotional landscapes and the boundaries of art.
Therefore, the "Spindle" exhibition is not just an exhibition, but a thank you to yarn, to her youth, to those who have accompanied her, and even to those who once doubted her.
The artist wants to invite the public to step into, for the first time, a world she calls "where threads breathe."

The path of art is solitary, but I find myself there.
The "Spinning Threads" exhibition takes viewers through four spaces, corresponding to the stages of growth in Thao Nguyen Phuong's nearly decade-long creative journey.
The exhibition begins with "Unfinished," showcasing her incomplete works. She doesn't choose to hide her early flaws, but rather wants them to be seen as part of her artistic journey.
Next up is "Inheritance," showcasing paintings in which she "recreates" famous works using threads, not as copies, but as a dialogue with her predecessors through a new medium.
In the "Ego" section, viewers begin to clearly recognize Thao Nguyen Phuong's distinct voice.
She said that as her learning journey slowed down, she began to confront the biggest question: "What am I doing this for?"
At that moment, she bid farewell to old influences and returned to herself. She began creating because she wanted to get closer to her emotions and experiences, not because of concerns about right and wrong.
The deeper she delved, the more she understood that the path of art was a solitary one, but also the place where she found her own voice.
And the final section of the exhibition is "The Beginning," where Thao Nguyen Phuong displays her most completed works, the culmination of two and a half years of meticulous hand-stitching.

According to the organizers, fiber art emerged in the 1950s in Europe and America, when artists began transforming fibers into expressive materials, rather than just using them for weaving.
By the 1960s and 1970s, this movement had spread alongside the feminist wave, as a way of asserting that what had once been considered "domestic chores" could also be transformed into art.
In Vietnam, the concept of fiber art is still relatively new. Thao Nguyen Phuong is a pioneer in this field.
