During the naval parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, the Vietnam People's Navy showcased its strength at sea, contributing to the firm protection of the nation's maritime territories and islands. Among the modern equipment, the appearance of the Ka-28 anti-submarine helicopters, the main combat aircraft of the Vietnam People's Navy's Air Force, attracted particular attention.

The Ka-28 anti-submarine helicopter, originating from the Soviet Union, is a specialized helicopter for reconnaissance, detection, and destruction of enemy submarines, ensuring the firm protection of the nation's maritime territories and islands.
The Ka-28 is 11.3 m long, 5.4 m high, has a rotor diameter of 15.9 m, a crew of 2-3 people, and a maximum takeoff weight of 12,000 kg. Designed with two counter-rotating coaxial rotors (instead of just one main rotor like traditional helicopters), along with two turbine engines, the Ka-28 can reach a maximum speed of 270 km/h, a range of up to 980 km, and take off and land in all weather conditions, including on small ships where other helicopters cannot.

In addition, the Ka-28 is equipped with individual life vests to stay afloat in emergency situations. The rear compartment of the aircraft contains a foldable rubber raft that can be inflated by pulling a cord in case of an emergency landing at sea.
In terms of firepower, the Ka-28 is equipped with torpedoes and anti-submarine bombs capable of destroying targets at a depth of 500 meters. The helicopter uses the Osminog radar, which can scan the ocean surface and detect surface targets such as submarine periscopes from a distance of 30 kilometers.
The Ka-28 is also equipped with anti-submarine sensors and weapons. These devices can detect and destroy enemy submarines before they can pose a threat. The helicopter can deploy VGS-3 embedded sonar to search for targets in the deep sea and use sonar buoys to pinpoint the exact location of submarines.

Notably, the Ka-28 anti-submarine helicopter is a key component in enhancing the anti-submarine capabilities of the first pair of Gepard 3.9 frigates of the Vietnamese Navy, which lacked anti-submarine warfare capabilities, and in supplementing the anti-submarine power of the second pair of Gepard 3.9 frigates. These helicopters regularly accompany Vietnamese missile frigates on missions at sea.
The Ka-28 is a highly deterrent weapon, ready to undertake the most difficult and complex missions, affirming the position of the Vietnamese Navy in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands.
