China vows to work to address security challenges, paving way for peace talks in Ukraine

On September 14, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong said Beijing will address international challenges in the security field at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other multilateral forums.

The 2024 Beijing Xiangshan Forum takes place from September 12-14 in Beijing, China.

Speaking at a diplomatic event on the sidelines of the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, Vice Minister Chen Xiaodong said: "China will step up cooperation, emphasize mutual support by launching appropriate initiatives through mechanisms such as BRICS and SCO... and contribute to finding comprehensive solutions to various security challenges."

According to the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Beijing will "actively integrate its initiatives into the regional architecture and contribute to security and stability". He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in this area with member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Latin American countries "to help form a core community of peace and prosperity".

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong said Beijing will continue to coordinate with all parties involved in the crisis to pave the way for peace negotiations.

“China will continue to communicate extensively with all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis with the aim of reaching consensus on ending hostilities and paving the way and building bridges for peace talks,” Mr. Chen Xiaodong stressed.

The Xiangshan Security Forum was held in Beijing from September 12-14. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Defense Minister General Alexander Fomin.
