Dong Trieu Medical Center: Ensuring stable medical examination and treatment activities

Implementing the Project to reorganize the apparatus according to the policy of the provincial health sector, the district-level health centers have been renamed, removing the element "district, town, city" to conform to the new model without district-level administrative units. Despite the name change, the centers, including Dong Trieu Health Center, continue to be public service units under the Department of Health and maintain the current status of headquarters, assets, facilities, human resources and financial resources.
Dong Trieu Medical Center used to manage 19 commune and ward health stations; after the reorganization, there were 5 health stations left but the basic personnel structure was kept stable, with only adjustments in some station leadership positions. Since July 1, when the two-level government model officially operated, the Center has also completed the adjustment of necessary administrative procedures such as changing seals, accounts, and digital signatures for nearly 500 officers and employees. Mr. Le Ky Truong, Director of the Center, said: "We have proactively assigned focal points in charge of each area of work, ensuring timely and synchronous implementation of tasks, maintaining smooth and effective professional activities."
Notably, despite the transition, the Center still maintains the quality of medical examination and treatment, without any interruption or disruption. The team of doctors here not only has solid expertise but also masters many modern medical techniques such as: Endoscopic microsurgery of the larynx to remove vocal cord cysts, tympanic membrane repair, zygomatic arch fusion, cataract surgery using the Phaco method...
Currently, the Center has mastered 100% of district-level techniques, 44% of provincial-level techniques and 30.9% of central-level techniques. The referral rate is only 3.35% in 2024, clearly demonstrating the increasing trust of people in the quality of medical examination and treatment in the locality. This is an important factor in reducing the burden on upper-level facilities, while saving time, costs and creating convenience for people when receiving medical care right at their place of residence. Ms. Dinh Thi Hien (Kim Son ward) said: "I have visited Dong Trieu Medical Center many times and feel very secure. The doctors are dedicated, have good expertise and give clear instructions. The procedures have not changed, they are even faster than before."
The center has invested in many modern machines to serve the health care work for the people.
Not only focusing on human factors, Dong Trieu Medical Center has also gradually modernized its facilities and equipment to improve treatment efficiency. The project to renovate and build a new center with a total investment of 390 billion VND is being urgently implemented. The project includes an 8-storey building for medical examination and treatment; two 3-storey buildings for infectious disease departments, disease control and public health. When completed, the Center will increase its scale to more than 400 beds, contributing significantly to improving medical examination and treatment capacity in the area.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Center received 87,590 medical examinations (reaching 97.3% compared to the same period in 2024), treated 9,827 inpatients (reaching 106.9%), with a bed occupancy rate of 111.7%. These figures clearly reflect the stability and efficiency of the unit's operations.
It can be affirmed that in the process of innovating the local government model, Dong Trieu Medical Center has demonstrated a spirit of initiative, responsibility and flexible adaptation.
