Bringing poverty reduction information closer to the people

The information poverty reduction sub-project under the National Target Program for the 2021-2025 period on sustainable poverty reduction implemented by Tam Giang commune has brought many positive results.

In early 2025, the entire Tam Giang commune had 773 poor households, accounting for 13.26%; 449 near-poor households, accounting for 7.70%. Many families did not understand the support policy, did not know how to access loans, and lacked skills in exploiting information for production and business. Faced with that reality, the commune has implemented many forms of propaganda to help poor and near-poor households access useful information, poverty reduction policies and strategies, change awareness, and proactively escape poverty.

In Trap village (the only ethnic minority village in the commune, with particularly difficult economy , the rate of poor and near-poor households accounts for more than 80%; the population is mainly Ede ethnic group), many solutions to support poor households are being actively implemented by the commune.

According to the head of Trap village, head of the Y Sieng village community communication team, after reviewing by the end of 2025, the whole village still has 71 poor households and 4 near-poor households. Implementing the national target program on poverty reduction, especially information poverty reduction, the village also participates in the Zalo group of the village and village party committees, so all new policies and guidelines are updated quickly and clearly. The group also shares good articles and models for people to read, watch and learn production experiences.

The dissemination of information through the digital environment has helped many households access preferential credit policies and choose suitable models to escape poverty. The village has distributed 71 free SIM cards so that poor and near-poor households can access new knowledge and boldly change their thinking and working methods, thereby opening up opportunities for sustainable poverty escape.

Mr. Y Guin MLo, Trap village, was guided by village and commune officials to look up information, models, and good practices to escape poverty sustainably.

Mr. Y Guin MLo, a poor household in Trap village, shared: “My family is a poor household. In the past, due to lack of business conditions and lack of access to scientific and technical advances, coffee growing was not effective. For the past two years, I have been able to participate in vocational training classes, training on plant and animal care techniques opened in the commune; and have been supported with 4G sim cards to access the Internet to view information, learn from experiences, and good production and business models of other households... Thanks to that, my wife and I have boldly changed the way of production, improved and invested in techniques in the coffee plantation we are growing.”

Mr. Y Nop Nie confided: “Thanks to accessing knowledge, skills, models, labor and production experience provided by the village and commune, we have the opportunity to learn and apply them. Thanks to that, from a poor household in the commune, I have now escaped poverty and built a new, spacious house, taking care of my children's education. Without useful information, I would still be struggling in difficulties."

Along with communication, Tam Giang commune simultaneously implements multi-dimensional poverty reduction policies. The locality focuses on improving production capacity for people, especially poor and near-poor households.

Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Tam Giang Commune Nguyen Quang Tuan said that when people have access to full information and see successful models right in their locality, they boldly change their thinking, have the motivation to rise up out of poverty, contributing to the successful implementation of the commune's goal of sustainable poverty reduction.

In the coming time, the commune will continue to promote communication programs towards getting closer to each household, increasing mobile propaganda in remote hamlets, combined with modern forms of communication. At the same time, promote the role of the staff to effectively convey messages, spreading successful poverty reduction models.
