Forecasts indicate that the highest tide levels at the stations from December 10-14 will occur on December 10 and 14 (corresponding to the 21st and 25th of the 10th lunar month). At My Thuan and Tra Vinh stations, the predicted water level is 2-5cm higher than the flood warning level; at the remaining stations, the water level is approximately at or 1-18cm lower than the flood warning level.
Specifically, on December 10th, at the My Thuan and Cho Lach stations, the peak tide occurred from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM; at the My Hoa and Tra Vinh stations, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM; and at the An Thuan, Binh Dai, and Ben Trai stations, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. At the Cau Quan station, the peak tide occurred from 11:30 PM to 12:30 AM on December 13th and 14th.
High tides are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas throughout the province. This is especially true for areas within dikes but with open sluice gates; and inland areas without sluice gates, where the difference in water levels between the evening and morning high tides and the nighttime low tide (low tide) is very small, leading to prolonged periods of high water between high tides. The risk of flooding is also high in other low-lying areas, areas with weak or no dikes, areas outside of dikes; sandbanks, islets, and areas along rivers, canals, and the coast.
Local authorities are advised to develop plans to protect and reinforce dike systems; elevate furniture and belongings; and proactively prepare for flooding and landslides caused by high tides combined with water from upstream, northeasterly winds, and other factors.
Forecasts indicate that the high tide from December 19-25 will be 10-20cm lower than the current high tide (from December 3-9, 2025).
