According to AKC, this year's event is considered an important foundation in concretizing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between ASEAN and Korea - a vision proposed by Korean President Lee Jae Myung to promote comprehensive cooperation in the fields of culture, economy and communication.
The event also continues the spirit of the ASEAN-Korea Summit held in Malaysia at the end of October.
ASEAN Week 2025 includes four main programs: the inauguration ceremony of 10 ASEAN seats at Jeju Olle Trail, ASEAN Reporters Invitation Program, ASEAN-Korea Media Forum and ASEAN Trade Fair 2025.
The event kicked off at the Parnas Jeju Hotel on November 11 with the inauguration of 10 chairs symbolizing the 10 ASEAN countries, installed along Jeju Olle No. 8 – ASEAN-Korea Olle, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-Korea dialogue relations.
The ceremony, hosted by the AKC Center in coordination with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Government and the Jeju Olle Foundation, gathered about 100 delegates, including ASEAN Ambassadors to Korea, Jeju Provincial leaders and representatives of regional press agencies.
Within the framework of ASEAN Week 2025, the ASEAN Journalists Invitation Program takes place from November 11-15, with the participation of 20 reporters from 10 Southeast Asian countries, nominated by ASEAN Embassies in Seoul and Asia News Network (ANN). The reporters will participate in reporting, interviewing and interacting with Korean officials and ASEAN Ambassadors, and learn about activities in the series of ASEAN Week events in Seoul, Jeju and Ilsan.
In parallel, on November 12, the ASEAN-Korea Media Forum, co-organized by AKC and the Korea Press Foundation, will discuss two key topics: “The Future of the ASEAN-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and “ASEAN-Korea Cultural Exchange: K-Culture as a Connecting Bridge”.
From November 13-16, the ASEAN Trade Fair 2025 took place at the KINTEX 2 Exhibition Center (Ilsan), gathering 80 food and beverage (F&B) enterprises from ASEAN countries. Notably, Vietnam is the country with the most businesses present.
The event showcased regional specialty products such as kaya jam, coffee, biscuits, chocolate and dried fruits, along with B2B business meetings to expand trade cooperation opportunities between ASEAN businesses and Korean importers.
Since its launch in 2019, ASEAN Week has become a signature annual event connecting the culture, economy and people between ASEAN and Korea. This year, the program not only honors the 35-year friendship between the two sides but also marks a new development in realizing the goal of the ASEAN-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for a peaceful , cooperative and prosperous East Asia.
AKC Secretary-General Kim Jae-shin emphasized: “ASEAN Week 2025 is an opportunity for leaders, businesses, and reporters from ASEAN and Korea to meet, exchange, and cooperate more deeply. We expect this year's event to contribute to promoting substantive cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding, and strengthening trust between the two regions."
