Exciting boat racing festival at the beginning of spring in Nghe An

On the morning of February 12th (the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon), the People's Committee of Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province, organized the Spring Fishing Festival and a traditional boat race at the Phu Lien village sea dike in Quynh Long commune.

This is one of the annual activities of fishermen in the sea of ​​Quynh Long commune taking place in early Spring 2024.

Before the boat race takes place, the local Party committee and government organize a ceremony to pay respects to the ancestors at the Whale God Temple in Dai Bac village. This ceremony is meant to pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather throughout the year, and abundant harvests; to hope for calm seas and smooth sailing for ships and boats, full holds of fish and shrimp, and an increasingly prosperous life for the villagers. It is also a way for the villagers to remember their ancestors who contributed to the founding and development of the village.

This year's boat race features 8 teams from 8 villages in the commune, with over 100 participants divided into 4 groups, competing in 7 heats over a 200m round-trip course.

With a spirit of sportsmanship , solidarity, and honesty, the fishing teams competed wholeheartedly for their team's colors, attracting thousands of people from surrounding communes and areas to watch and cheer, creating a joyful and lively atmosphere for the seafood harvesting season's launch ceremony.

The organizing committee awarded the first prize to the team from Dai Bac village, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province.

Besides the boat racing event, the local authorities also organize cultural exchange programs to create a lively and attractive atmosphere for the people during Tet.

At the end of the boat race, the organizing committee awarded the championship to Dai Bac village, second place to Phu Lien village, joint third place to Thanh Cong and Cong Hoa villages, and four consolation prizes to the remaining teams.
