(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Thai national team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Sri Lanka in their opening match of Group D in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, held on the evening of March 25th (Vietnam time).
Hosting Sri Lanka at home, the Thai team quickly put pressure on the visitors' defense with a high-pressing formation. In the 10th minute, midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin tested the goalkeeper with a shot from outside the penalty area, but it was unsuccessful.
After about half an hour of focused defense, the Sri Lankan team regained control of the game and launched several quick counter-attacks. However, the Thai team still maintained good ball control in the midfield, making it difficult for the visitors to defend.

In the 42nd minute, the Thai team finally scored the opening goal when striker Supanat Mueanta headed the ball inside the penalty area, leaving the Sri Lankan goalkeeper unable to hold onto it, allowing Patrick Gustavsson to quickly tap it into the net.
Notably, after his team conceded a goal, Sri Lanka's coach Abdullah Al Mutairi reacted angrily, resulting in a red card from the referee and the loss of his touchline duties. The 1-0 score remained until the end of the first half.
In the second half, in the 49th minute, Thailand almost extended their lead when Supachai Sarachat received the ball in the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot, but the ball unfortunately hit the post and bounced out.

In the remaining minutes, the Thai team continued to launch strong attacks but were unable to score any more goals, ending the match with a narrow 1-0 victory over Sri Lanka.
In the other match of Group D, the Turkmenistan team defeated Taiwan (China) with a score of 2-1, thus having 3 points like Thailand but securing first place in the group due to a better goal difference.
