On August 23, the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds - UK) university ranking organization announced that the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF) has once again achieved the QS Stars 4-Star international certification, cycle 2.
According to the 2024 evaluation cycle, UEF is the first university in Vietnam to apply the new QS Stars 6.0 standard, which the organization just issued in February 2024. The new standard includes 9 criteria: Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Good Governance, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Academic Development, Programme Strength, Global Engagement, and Environmental Impact.
In the 2024 evaluation criteria, the school achieved a 5-star rating in 5 out of 9 criteria, including:
With the new QS Stars version 6.0, QS updates many standards related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations to support internationally oriented universities and prepare a workforce with the knowledge and skills to address community and societal challenges.
Regarding the old standards, the QS organization has updated many aspects to reflect current trends in international higher education development. In terms of teaching quality standards, universities are evaluated not only through student satisfaction, faculty-to-student ratio, and on-time graduation rate, but also through student retention rates, learning management systems, and academic support and counseling.
UEF is one of the universities that has achieved educational quality accreditation according to the new standards of the Ministry of Education and Training . The university has also received accreditation for the quality of its training programs in 16 undergraduate majors and 1 master's degree program.
Furthermore, a key strength of the university's training programs is its diverse range of international programs, from student exchange programs and international semesters to joint programs. Students have many opportunities to study in Vietnam or transfer to 2+2 or 3+1 programs at partner universities abroad to obtain an international degree.
In its 2024 evaluation cycle, QS added the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion criterion to replace the Holistic Development criterion to assess a university's ability to provide a fair learning environment that cares about the development of each individual, respects differences, and promotes freedom of expression.
As a bilingual learning environment, the school always creates opportunities for students to interact and exchange ideas with many international experts through extracurricular activities. From the sharing of foreign experts, students can learn to view issues more professionally and comprehensively. Their knowledge and thinking are no longer confined to the domestic context, but develop logical thinking from a global perspective and situation.
On the other hand, to ensure students can study, train, and research comfortably, the school always provides favorable conditions in terms of facilities, from classrooms, extracurricular areas, practice areas, physical training areas, arts and culture areas, etc., all fully equipped with modern tools and equipment.
In its assessment of student employment, QS also evaluates not only the presence of businesses at the university or the university's reputation with businesses, the student employment rate, and career and employment support services, but also the results of graduates working in their field of study and the rate of student internships.
The QS Stars 4-Star international accreditation in cycle 2, along with 5-Star ratings across key criteria, once again affirms the quality of education and the university's position on the international education map. This is a prime example of a highly international university, demonstrating excellence in both research and teaching, providing a superior teaching and training environment for students and faculty.
