When the group arrived, due to the impact of the storm in the past few days, the less than 20m² rented room did not have enough space to sit, making everyone feel sad and sympathetic. Ms. Chi lost her parents when she was young. When she grew up, she married Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, but poverty still persisted. They had to leave their hometown of Can Tho to go to Dong Nai to find a way to make a living.
When she was young, Mrs. Chi worked as a janitor. Now, old and weak, she goes out to the alley to sell small things. Meanwhile, Mr. Dung wanders around every day, searching for old tires in the sun, wind, and dust of the road, hoping to earn a little money.
The poverty had not yet passed when one disaster after another struck her family. After the shock of her marriage, her eldest son fell into depression and then mental illness for the past 7 years. The youngest daughter died of illness, leaving behind 2 young children and a debt for medical expenses. The son-in-law disappeared, leaving behind 2 young grandchildren living with their grandparents in a life of deprivation. The family of 5 lived in a precarious situation, without insurance or any support policies.

In a choked voice, Ms. Chi shared: “For nearly 20 years of living abroad, I never thought that one day I would receive such care and help from so many people. I am so happy… Happy that my children and grandchildren have the opportunity to continue going to school, happy that I have medicine for my son, and have capital to do small business to make ends meet and take care of the children…”.
“The Desire to Live” is not just about giving gifts, but also about sowing seeds of love and supporting the small lives of people struggling to make a living. Because with just one heart, no one will be left behind.
