(Dan Tri) - With a new surgical method shared by international experts, patients with knee and hip bone cancer will have the opportunity to be treated quickly and recover quickly.

At the conference, international experts shared advanced bone surgery and bone cancer treatment methods that are very promising, giving domestic patients the opportunity for safe treatment and quick recovery.

Surgery for bone cancer in the upper and lower femoral head using wide tumor excision and artificial joint replacement is of interest and highly appreciated by experts. This is a new method, which is expected to become a trend in the future, but is not yet popular in Vietnam.

"With knee and hip replacement surgery, patients can stand up and walk immediately after surgery" - Dr. Le Van Tho - Head of the Department of Musculoskeletal Pathology - Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic Hospital spoke at the conference.

Doctor Tho said that for decades, domestic hospitals have been treating femoral bone cancer patients using biological regeneration methods. After removing the tumor on the femur, bone from other areas of the patient, such as the pelvis, will be taken to compensate. Although this method is very good and effective in the long term, the surgical process is very difficult and complicated.

With the mechanical reconstruction method, patients are replaced with artificial joints. This method has a much simpler surgical process, and patients recover quickly. However, Dr. Tho said that for some reasons, the new surgical method is still not popular in Vietnam.

In addition to sharing about bone cancer treatment methods, at the conference, experts also presented 52 reports on the fields of Resuscitation, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Respiratory, Microbiology, Vaccines, Neurology, Urology, Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Burns and Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Nursing; 37 reports on spine, orthopedic oncology.

Experts also demonstrated 3 complex spinal cases.
