Upon hearing news of seedless lychees recently appearing in Vietnam, many people searched for them to try, but couldn't find any. Ms. Thu Hang (from Hoang Mai district, Hanoi ) said that her family wanted to taste this special type of lychee. “ We’ve been eating traditional lychees for decades. So when we read about the successful cultivation and harvesting of seedless lychees in Vietnam, everyone in the family was curious and excited. However, after searching all the major supermarkets in Hanoi, I still haven’t found this product ,” Ms. Hang said.
Sharing the same curiosity about a seedless lychee variety with a sweet and refreshing taste, Ms. Quynh Van (Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi) also expressed: “ Not only me, but my friends and acquaintances are also very curious when asked about this lychee variety. We have researched and ordered online through various distributors, but the suppliers say that this product is always out of stock .”
Seedless lychee, also known as pearl lychee, is propagated and cultivated in the mountainous region of Ngoc Lac district, Thanh Hoa province. This product has been propagated, cultivated, and developed by Ho Guom Group Joint Stock Company over the past 5 years.

Speaking to VTC News , Mr. Nguyen Duy Ninh, General Director of the Service Division of Ho Guom Group Joint Stock Company, said that recently, the first shipment of seedless lychees was packaged and transported to Noi Bai Airport by Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited ( thuộc Ho Guom Group) for export to Japan and the United Kingdom. This is a special type of lychee characterized by being seedless (or having very small, underdeveloped seeds). The cultivation process is also very special, meeting the stringent criteria of demanding markets worldwide.
According to Mr. Ninh, the total volume of the shipment to the two aforementioned foreign markets is over 1 ton, including 500 kg to Japan and 600 kg to the United Kingdom. According to surveys, in the Japanese market, seedless lychees are being sold at 4,500-5,000 yen/kg, equivalent to 750,000-840,000 VND/kg.
Additionally, another distributor of seedless lychee products from Ho Guom Group also exported a shipment of over 100 kg from Vietnam to Japan through The Domino Corporation (Tokyo) for distribution in an Asian supermarket in Japan.
The seedless fabric, also known as pearl fabric, is beautifully packaged.
With its seedless lychee variety, this unit has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Ngoc Lac, Thanh Hoa is also the only place in Vietnam that has successfully grown seedless lychees on a large scale.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Ninh, this area has suitable soil and climate for this type of lychee. The company also selected a separate plot of land, avoiding the indiscriminate planting of traditional lychee varieties alongside it to prevent cross-pollination by bees. " This ensures that 100% of the harvested lychees are seedless ."
Representatives from Ho Guom - Song Am High-Tech Agriculture Co., Ltd. stated that 2023 was the first year the company harvested lychees for sale on the market. The estimated harvest was approximately 20 tons, with a wholesale price of around 170,000 VND/kg. Currently, the company's seedless lychees are available in many major domestic markets such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Seedless lychees (also known as "jade lychees") are valued for their subtly sweet taste, low sugar content, and health benefits. While many lychee varieties and other fruits today are excessively sweet and contain high sugar content, affecting consumer health, the seedless lychee variety is cultivated with the characteristic of being "subtly sweet and low in sugar." This is also the characteristic that makes this fruit so attractive.
The retail price of seedless lychees in the domestic market currently ranges from 250,000 to 320,000 VND/kg, depending on packaging, quantity, and size of the fruit. The company distributes them in boxes, such as a special box priced at 800,000 VND/box (only 200 boxes produced); a 2 kg box priced at 550,000 VND/box; a 1 kg box priced at 280,000 VND/box; and a 500 gram box priced at 148,000 VND/box.
" This price might be considered high compared to traditional lychee varieties, but when evaluating the quality against other imported fruits, it's perfectly reasonable, " commented the General Director of the Service Division of Ho Guom Group Joint Stock Company.
Seedless lychees have a subtly sweet taste, are low in sugar, and are very good for the health of consumers.
Regarding the scarcity of this product in supermarkets and fruit stores, Mr. Nguyen Duy Ninh acknowledged that seedless lychees are currently in high demand. He noted that orders for this type of lychee are very large, while the supply is insufficient to meet the needs of supermarkets and retail fruit stores. It will also take more time for this type of lychee to become available in traditional markets.
According to a representative of Ho Guom Group Joint Stock Company, the event of exporting the first ton of seedless lychees to Japan and the United Kingdom marks an important milestone for the local agricultural sector, opening up opportunities for exporting many agricultural products of Thanh Hoa province in particular and Vietnam in general in the future.
For the domestic market, the manufacturer is still trying to meet customer demand. First, this will involve establishing a presence in supermarkets in major city centers across the country.
