Forever echo the heroic songs of the country

Half a century after the great spring victory of 1975, music still flows peacefully like a river of memories in the hearts of Vietnamese people. In the atmosphere of the historic September days, at the Hanoi Opera House, the Vietnam Musicians Association organized the National Melody music night, honoring 55 representative works since the country's reunification. Each melody seems to contribute a part to the great "symphony" of the country.

Writing the history of the nation through music.

Major General and musician Nguyen Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians Association, emotionally recalled a moment that every generation of Vietnamese people will cherish in their memories: on April 30, 1975, the song "As if Uncle Ho were present on the day of great victory" by musician Pham Tuyen resounded through the radio waves, heralding a new era for the nation.

At that moment, the melody was the joyful cry of millions of hearts, the overflowing happiness of a nation united. From that moment, according to composer Duc Trinh, Vietnamese music began a new chapter, carrying within it the breath of history, of the aspiration for peace and reconstruction.

For 50 years after reunification, music has been a faithful witness, a chronicler of history through melody. Music not only records glorious chapters of history but also preserves the pain of loss, the joy of reunion, the silent sacrifices, and the dreams of a better life. These works have affirmed the immense role of revolutionary music in the spiritual life of the nation.

The " Melodies of the Homeland" music night was organized by the Vietnam Musicians Association.

The " Melodies of the Fatherland" concert recreated that journey by honoring 55 representative musical works from the period 1975-2025 (including 50 songs and 5 instrumental/musical works) selected from music associations across the country. From "The Country Full of Joy" (Hoang Ha), which revived the atmosphere of national celebration, to "The First Spring" (Van Cao), which resonated like a promise for the future, and the medley "Spring in Ho Chi Minh City" (Xuan Hong) and "Vietnam, Spring Has Arrived" (Huy Du), which were as vibrant as marching steps into battle, now become steps into the era of reconstruction.

The melody of love and hope

The concert was a vibrant convergence of colors, a tapestry of sounds where each brushstroke was a melody that had deeply touched the hearts of the audience. On stage, timeless songs soared through the voices of People's Artists Quoc Hung and Duc Long, and talented young singers such as Ngo Huong Diep, Minh Toi, and Hoang Anh… Each voice was like a gateway transporting listeners back to the glorious days of the nation.

Besides songs about victory, the program also portrays songs associated with the most sacred and profound emotions. These include love for the homeland through works such as " Love for the Red Soil of the Eastern Region " (Tran Long An) or " The Village Pavilion by the Sea" (Nguyen Cuong), and the poignant longing for the capital city with "Remembering Hanoi" (Hoang Hiep) and "Oh, Hanoi Street" (Phu Quang)...

And deeply moving love songs like "Boat and Sea" (Phan Huynh Dieu, lyrics by Xuan Quynh) and "Milk Flower " (Hong Dang) left listeners silent in nostalgia and gentle emotion. Interspersed among these were instrumental pieces and musical dramas like "Red Leaves" (Do Hong Quan), which became epic anthems, evoking a time of fiery yet romantic battlefields.

A particularly meaningful highlight is the inclusion of the song "This Earth Belongs to Us" (lyrics by Dinh Hai, music by Truong Quang Luc) in the list of honored artists. The song, familiar to children, is simple and innocent, yet it contains a profound message about peace, friendship, and the aspiration to live together on our green planet.

The pure lyrics of the song clearly demonstrate that revolutionary music not only depicts victories but also nurtures universal human values, sowing seeds in the souls of future generations. The concert concluded with the melody "As if Uncle Ho were present on the day of great victory ," ending a journey of memories and opening a new chapter.

For the past half-century, revolutionary songs and patriotic love songs have become a spiritual heritage, nurturing Vietnamese pride and aspirations. And from here, each year on Vietnamese Music Day, the Melodies of the Fatherland will resound, allowing the past and present to intertwine, and faith and love to continue spreading across our beloved S-shaped land.
