Vera Wang sells her namesake brand after 35 years in business

The Vera Wang brand has been independently owned since its founding in 1990, with designer Vera Wang as the sole owner and reporting annual revenues of over $700 million.

WHP Global, the management group behind the acquisition of the brand's IP, announced the deal to the media. As part of the agreement, designer Vera Wang will continue as the brand's founder and creative director, while also joining WHP as a shareholder. The group also owns fashion brands including Rag & Bone, G-Star, Isaac Mizrahi, Anne Klein, Bonobos, and Joe's Jeans, children's retailer Toys R Us, and, as of June, the Express department store brand. The remaining terms of the Vera Wang deal have not been disclosed.

Vera Wang, whose full name is Vera Ellen Wang, is a renowned wedding dress designer who emerged in the early 1990s.

Starting as a single bridal shop in The Carlyle Hotel, Vera Wang has evolved into a complete lifestyle brand. Her designs are the dream of millions of brides worldwide . Beyond her fashion talent, Vera Wang has recently impressed with her youthful appearance and toned physique at age 71. She introduced ready-to-wear clothing in 2000, and also launched product lines including home goods, jewelry, perfumes, and shoes; she has also collaborated with Kohl's and David's Bridal on popular product lines. Her bridal gowns are highly coveted and a favorite among celebrities. She has designed wedding dresses for many star clients, including Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Uma Thurman, and Vanessa Hudgens.

Bride Son Ye Jin also chose a wedding dress by designer Vera Wang for her big day.

Speaking to Vogue , the designer said: “It’s exciting, this is the perfect fit for me and at the right time. I feel incredibly fortunate that they have so much faith in me and my brand.”
