On August 31, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to the information, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "Vietnamese authorities are urgently investigating the matter."
Once again, Ms. Hang affirmed: "Vietnam has full legal grounds and historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago in accordance with international law, as well as sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the maritime areas established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea."
The fishing vessel QNg 90495TS reported being attacked by a foreign vessel on August 30th.
Vietnam opposes all acts of using force against Vietnamese fishing vessels operating normally at sea, threatening the lives and safety, as well as causing damage to the property and interests of fishermen, contrary to international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Ms. Hang emphasized.
Earlier, on the evening of August 29, according to VNA, several fishermen on the fishing vessel QNg 90495TS from Quang Ngai reported to authorities that they had been attacked by a foreign vessel, resulting in injuries to two fishermen and damage to their property.
The fishing vessel QNg 90495 TS is owned by Mr. Huynh Van Hoanh (43 years old), residing in Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district.
According to accounts from fishermen and reports to border guards, at approximately 5:00 AM on August 28th, the fishing vessel QNg 90495 TS, while traveling from Phu Lam Island to Xa Cu Shoal (part of Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago) for fishing, was pursued by a foreign vessel that used high-pressure water cannons to spray water at the fishing vessel.
As a result, fisherman Huynh Van Hoanh (43 years old, owner and chief engineer of the boat) suffered a broken right arm; Captain Huynh Van Tien (Hoanh's son, 26 years old, also residing in Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district) sustained head injuries. There were 10 fishermen on board at the time of the attack.
