This is a key event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the WMO, focusing on the “Early Warnings for All” (EW4All) initiative and other strategic issues, including the Global Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System (G3W) and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in meteorological forecasting.

According to the announcement, in addition to the EW4All initiative and the G3W system, this year's agenda also discusses the Integrated Forecasting System (WIPPS), legal issues, and governance. Furthermore, the WMO plans to review the WMO Youth Action Plan and propose additional funding for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to Geneva, attended the event.

Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporter, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to Geneva, said that Vietnam highly appreciates the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations (UN) for their efforts in turning early warning systems into a global public interest, saving lives and protecting development. Ambassador Mai Phan Dung emphasized: “The climate crisis, marked by increasingly frequent and devastating extreme weather events, poses one of the greatest challenges of our time, threatening decades of development achievements and demanding collective, science- based action.” According to the Ambassador, the WMO plays an indispensable role as the world's leading organization in meteorology, hydrology, and climate science – helping countries build resilience and save lives. For Vietnam, the impacts of climate change are not distant but a daily reality. As a tropical monsoon country with a long coastline, Vietnam is among the most vulnerable to climate change. This year alone, severe storms have caused tragic losses of life and livelihoods.

The Ambassador emphasized that these experiences reinforce Vietnam's determination to act and cooperate more closely with the WMO and partners. Vietnam fully supports the Early Warning for All initiative, viewing it not merely as a project, but as a strategic imperative – one that can significantly reduce human suffering and economic damage. Closing the early warning gap by 2027 is both a moral obligation and an economic necessity. Vietnam is ready to accelerate the nationwide implementation of the EW4All roadmap, in close coordination with the WMO and the UN system. Vietnam calls on all partners – governments, development agencies, and the private sector – to join hands in mobilizing the necessary resources and political will to ensure that everyone on Earth is protected.

This year's event holds symbolic significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the WMO. Over the past 75 years, the WMO has played a pivotal role in international cooperation on meteorology, climate, and hydrology. The commemorative activities, including the reception and drone demonstration, honor the contributions of the global meteorological scientific community and reaffirm the WMO's commitment to protecting society from climate change. With broad participation from countries and organizations, this year's event is expected to have a lasting impact on shaping the development of global meteorological systems and climate response.
