Stable production amid severe natural disasters
Since the end of the third quarter, natural disasters and extreme weather have continuously caused severe damage in many localities. Flash floods and landslides in the northern mountainous region and the North Central region have affected tens of thousands of households, destroyed transport infrastructure, irrigation, electricity, and schools, and caused estimated damage of tens of thousands of billions of VND.
In the Central region, heavy rains and floods in November continued to bury large areas of rice and crops, while the Mekong Delta faced drought and salinity, threatening agricultural production and people's livelihoods.
In that context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has directed strongly, operated flexibly and proactively removed difficulties for production. The agricultural sector has strongly shifted to ecological agriculture, green economy and circular models; promoted digital transformation, shared data, connected markets and improved the efficiency of natural disaster management, forest protection and water security.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien emphasized that in the context of natural disasters, climate change and fluctuating international markets, the agricultural sector has maintained its "growth cycle" as a result of proactive and flexible leadership and direction, and is also a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the entire sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment directs and operates according to the motto of "proactive, decisive, flexible, and synchronous", associated with the task of restructuring the industry towards ecological agriculture, green economy, and circulation; promoting digital transformation, and building a shared database.
The Ministry focuses on perfecting institutions on land, water resources, environment, and agriculture; removing difficulties in markets, credit, and infrastructure; promoting trade, expanding markets; handling technical barriers, tracing origins, and continuing efforts to overcome the IUU "yellow card" warning.
Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports make strong breakthrough
Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 64.01 billion USD, up 12.6% over the same period last year. This impressive growth came from the strong recovery of key agricultural product groups, especially coffee, vegetables, seafood and cashew nuts.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that the industry's sustainable growth lies not only in record export figures, but more importantly in the quality of growth - that is, added value, linkage chains and competitiveness strengthened on a green and digital foundation. Vietnam is shifting from raw exports to smart exports.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has identified nine key tasks, including perfecting institutions and policies to serve green growth; promoting industry restructuring towards ecological agriculture; and promoting digital transformation in production, processing, and traceability.
Notably, in response to the US imposition of reciprocal tariffs, the Ministry has issued a new Tariff Adaptation Action Plan, focusing on market solutions, economic diplomacy and science and technology to maintain export growth to the US.
“The agricultural sector must consider digital transformation and green economy as two parallel pillars. It is not only an inevitable trend, but also the key to improving productivity, reducing emissions, and affirming the Vietnamese brand in the international market,” Deputy Minister Tien affirmed.
