Building a blood bank and dialysis system in Con Dao special zone

On August 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that it had sent 7 leading specialists in obstetrics, general surgery, pediatrics, anesthesia, orthopedics, general internal medicine, and nephrology to participate in the first rotation to work in Con Dao special zone on September 3.

A delegation of leaders from Ho Chi Minh City and leaders of leading general and specialized hospitals conducted a field survey at Con Dao special zone on July 16.

These are good, highly skilled doctors from units such as: Binh Dan Hospital, Nhan Dan Gia Dinh, Hung Vuong, Nhi Dong 1, Trauma and Orthopedics, Nguyen Tri Phuong.

According to Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , with the viewpoint of "leaving no one behind, even in the farthest places", the rotation program of specialist doctors to work in Con Dao organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, is not only an action of professional significance, but also a strong message about the service spirit of the city's health sector after the merger.

“Ho Chi Minh City's healthcare system not only expands geographically but also spreads its sense of responsibility to the farthest areas such as Con Dao,” said Associate Professor, Doctor, and Physician Tang Chi Thuong.

With this activity, Con Dao people and tourists will have access to professional and quality medical services. This is a practical action demonstrating the orientation of comprehensive and equitable development in health care.

In addition to the long-term and continuous rotation of specialist doctors, the health sector also implements short-term medical examination and treatment sessions at specialized hospitals in the city. The first session also took place in September 2025, providing dental care for students under the responsibility of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, a mobile blood bank was also set up at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, deployed by Hung Vuong Hospital to ensure emergency care, obstetric intervention and surgery.

Besides, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital is responsible for setting up the artificial kidney dialysis system, Binh Dan Hospital is responsible for setting up the standard operating room procedures...

All will be carried out by specialists under the direction and support of hospital leaders.

Another important activity ordered by the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health for rotating doctors is to provide training to update professional knowledge and transfer techniques to medical staff of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. Strengthen connections and remote consultation with experts from end-line hospitals when encountering complex cases.

“The Department of Health highly appreciates and respectfully acknowledges the enthusiastic response of the leaders of general and specialized hospitals and the pioneering spirit and readiness to take on rotational assignments to work in Con Dao of the doctors participating in the first phase, and currently the list of registered rotations is sufficient to last until the end of 2026,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong.
