Faced with the potential risk of increased dengue fever cases, the health sector and local authorities of Hai Phong city are actively and resolutely implementing measures to promptly handle outbreaks and prevent the widespread spread of dengue fever.
Urgent handling when an outbreak occurs
Cam Giang Medical Center said that since the beginning of the year, the Center has recorded 33 cases of dengue fever in Mao Dien, Tue Tinh, and Cam Giang communes.
Currently, the local government and the health sector are actively implementing the epidemic control. On October 22, Cam Giang Medical Center and Mao Dien commune coordinated to treat the environment and spray insecticide in Quy Duong village.
Since the beginning of September 2025, Mao Dien commune has recorded 12 cases of dengue fever. In the outbreak area of Quy Duong village, Mao Dien commune, in the 10 days from October 11 to 21, there were 7 cases of dengue fever. Currently, there are still 6 patients being treated at medical facilities.
Doctor Vu Thi Men, Head of Mao Dien Commune Health Station No. 1, said that immediately after receiving information about the case, the station sent staff to the family to investigate, mobilize the patient's family and surrounding households to clean up the environment, turn over objects containing stagnant water to kill mosquito larvae. The station also coordinated with the village's organizations to clean up the environment.
Mao Dien commune's leadership representative informed that after the outbreak, the commune held a meeting and directed departments and organizations to focus on the work, propagandize and mobilize people to carry out general environmental sanitation and gather at the outbreak area in hamlet 1, Quy Duong village, spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes within a radius of 200m from the outbreak area.
On October 22, Mao Dien commune mobilized forces to simultaneously clean up the environment in Quy Duong village, focusing on hamlet 1 and neighboring high-risk areas.
Party cells, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees, Women's Unions, Farmers' Associations, Youth Unions, and Veterans' Unions send forces to directly participate and propagate and mobilize people to participate.
The forces focused on collecting garbage, clearing bushes, unclogging sewers, removing stagnant water containers where dengue-carrying mosquitoes can easily breed, and turning over water containers when not in use. The commune health station coordinated to monitor, provide technical guidance on disease prevention and control, and spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes according to regulations.
In Hai Duong ward, after recording 2 cases of dengue fever in the same household, on October 17, the People's Committee of the ward directed the ward Health Station to coordinate with Hai Duong Medical Center, Military Command, Fatherland Front Committee and organizations to handle the outbreak at residential group No. 29, Han Giang area.
Authorities sprayed chemicals to kill mosquitoes in a 200m radius, including over 30 households around the epidemic area; organized a general environmental cleanup.
The People's Committee of Hai Duong Ward has launched a campaign to clean up the environment in the entire ward, requiring 100% of residential groups to take action to kill mosquitoes, handle stagnant water, and inspect high-risk areas such as construction sites, vacant houses, and boarding houses... to prevent the spread of the disease.
Strengthen propaganda and raise awareness of prevention
According to the Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control, the number of dengue fever cases usually increases in the last months of the year. Since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded more than 690 cases of dengue fever.
There are currently only 30 patients being treated at the medical facility. The latest statistics from the Hai Phong CDC show that, of the 133 outbreaks that have occurred since the beginning of the year, 14 are still active.
Mao Dien Commune People's Committee has requested households in Quy Duong village to fully implement the recommendations of professional agencies, proactively clean up inside and around their houses, and actively participate in the general environmental cleaning campaign.
The People's Committee of the commune has increased propaganda to the people on measures to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by covering water containers to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs, releasing fish into large water containers to kill larvae, washing small water containers, collecting and destroying waste items in and around the house, cleaning, and spraying insecticide periodically...
Ms. Pham Thi Thoi, Director of Cam Giang Medical Center informed that, in the face of the risk of increasing dengue fever cases, the unit and communes continue to strengthen propaganda for people to raise awareness of disease prevention by cleaning the environment, clearing trees and bushes, killing mosquito larvae, sleeping under mosquito nets, etc.
The Center actively coordinates with forces to thoroughly handle pathogens at the epidemic site to avoid the risk of a widespread outbreak. The unit also directs health stations to closely monitor the epidemic site, and to propagate and explain to households to raise people's awareness of disease prevention and control.
The Hai Phong City Center for Disease Control recommends that localities strengthen measures to prevent and control the epidemic. The most effective measure is to kill mosquitoes, larvae, and pupae.
