Yen Khanh implements winter crop production plan in 2023

On the afternoon of September 22nd, the People's Committee of Yen Khanh district held a conference to review the results of the 2023 crop season and to implement the plan for the 2023 winter crop season.

In the 2023 crop season, the entire district planted over 8,121 hectares, including 7,676 hectares of rice; 26.5 hectares of soybeans; 15.5 hectares of sweet potatoes; 42 hectares of corn; 21 hectares of peanuts; 38.8 hectares of other crops; and 400 hectares of various vegetables.

Rice cultivation, with 100% of the area planted with early-season varieties, was basically completed throughout the district by July 10th. The weather in the 2023 crop season was very favorable for crop growth and development; overall, the rice plants grew and developed well.

In particular, throughout the district, the area implementing production linkage models (approximately 145 hectares), projects producing organic rice two crops/year (155.2 hectares), and projects supporting new, advanced, and innovative techniques (183.2 hectares) are all developing well.

Currently, the rice plants are in the ripening and waxy stage. Harvesting is expected from October 5th to 15th, with an estimated yield of 56.5 quintals/hectare. The 2023 rice crop in Yen Khanh is predicted to be bountiful.

At the conference, delegates also heard a report summarizing the 2022 winter-spring crop season. Accordingly, Party committees, government agencies, mass organizations, and specialized departments from the district to the grassroots level strengthened leadership and guidance to mobilize the people to actively produce winter crops in 2023.

For the 2023 winter crop season, the entire district aims to plant approximately 2,230 hectares with crops including: corn, green squash, pumpkin, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, soybeans, peanuts, chili peppers, water spinach, and various vegetables.

At the conference, delegates from communes, cooperatives, and specialized departments focused on clarifying existing difficulties, proposing recommendations, and offering solutions to successfully implement the winter crop production. Specifically, they emphasized: focusing on disseminating information and mobilizing people to actively and proactively participate in winter crop production. Agricultural cooperatives should proactively seek markets and establish joint ventures and partnerships with businesses, companies, and organizations to produce winter crops in a commodity-oriented manner, increasing production value.

Local authorities are focusing on quickly and efficiently harvesting rice and other crops, freeing up land early to ensure timely implementation of winter crop production. They continue to encourage and facilitate organizations, individuals, and farming households to borrow land, lease land, or exchange land for winter crop cultivation.

The district's specialized agencies organize the transfer of scientific and technical advancements, introducing new models and new crops with high economic efficiency. They effectively forecast and predict pests and diseases, weather and climate developments, and agricultural market conditions for producers. They also strengthen inspection, control, and management of agricultural supplies in the area to ensure quality for winter crop production.

In particular, direct the strict implementation of flood and storm prevention measures, prepare well all types of electric and diesel pumps to be ready to combat waterlogging during the winter crop season, do a good job of implementing the on-field irrigation plan, and prioritize areas for winter crop production in 2023.
