Data from this report shows that in the "Messaging platforms" category, Zalo leads with a penetration rate of 85%, followed by Facebook with 59% and Messenger with 52%. Zalo's penetration rate saw growth compared to Q2/2024, reaching 82%. Meanwhile, Facebook and Messenger's penetration rates decreased slightly (Facebook reached 62% in Q2/2024 and Messenger reached 53%). The significant gap in penetration rates compared to Facebook and Messenger further solidifies Zalo's position as the most popular and preferred messaging application in Vietnam. In terms of preference rate, Zalo also leads the platforms with a 57% preference rate in Q2/2024, far surpassing Messenger and Facebook, which both achieved a 17% preference rate in Q2/2024. Since the beginning of 2024, the user preference rate for the Zalo platform has steadily increased quarter by quarter. Furthermore, Zalo maintains its position as the most popular platform across all three generations: Gen X, Gen Y, and Gen Z, with outstanding rates. 75% of Gen X respondents prefer using Zalo for daily messaging (casual messaging), while the rates for Messenger and Facebook messaging among Gen X are only 10% and 7%, respectively. Gen Y also shows a significant difference in preference for Zalo compared to other messaging platforms, with 56% of respondents favoring it. For Gen Z, although the gap has narrowed, the percentage of people who prefer using Zalo remains high (40%) compared to Messenger (28%) and Facebook (24%). This marks the 16th consecutive quarter that Zalo has achieved the top platform ranking across all three user generations since 2020 – a milestone signifying Zalo's transformation as it surpassed Facebook Messenger to become the number one messaging app in Vietnam. Zalo's consistent top ranking also demonstrates its serious investment and sustainable development vision. As a leading messaging platform for many years, Zalo continues to research and develop new features to serve diverse needs. According to VNG's recently released consolidated financial report for Q3 2024, the Zalo messaging platform currently has 77.6 million monthly active users (MAU) and nearly 1.97 billion messages sent daily.
