1,000km of LED lights light up Notre Dame Cathedral this Christmas season

Although it is still more than 20 days until Christmas, Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral has put on a splendid appearance, attracting many people and tourists to visit and take pictures.

This is the third year that Notre Dame Cathedral has been decorated with Christmas lights since the restoration began in 2017. The LED lighting system has been completed and operational for the past three days, lighting up from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

The highlight of this year's Christmas season is the use of 1,000km of LED lights, double the number compared to last year, turning Notre Dame Cathedral into a magical and brilliant space.

Many unique motifs such as globes, stars, and bells are decorated along the tiled roof, along with LED lights forming Christmas trees on two zinc towers, creating a sparkling beauty that attracts all eyes.

According to Dan Tri reporters , thousands of people and tourists flocked to Notre Dame Cathedral to enjoy the early festival atmosphere and capture memorable moments next to this unique architectural work.

Luu Nguyen Thuy An (19 years old) and her friends shared their joy at being immersed in the early Christmas atmosphere here. "Sitting and drinking coffee on the sidewalk and enjoying the chilly air of the last days of the year is a very interesting experience," Thuy An said.

A foreign tourist also did not miss the opportunity to pose with this unique Christmas "background".

Notre Dame Cathedral is not only a symbol of Catholicism in Vietnam but also one of the unique architectural works and famous destinations in Ho Chi Minh City. This work is currently being restored.

Built in 1877 and completed after 3 years, Notre Dame Cathedral was designed by architect J. Bourard. This work was conferred the title of Minor Basilica by the Vatican since 1959, with the basilica 60.5m high, the zinc tower and bell tower alone account for more than half of the height, creating a majestic and impressive architecture.

The church is currently undergoing restoration after more than 130 years of use. The restoration began in 2017 and was expected to be completed in 2-3 years, but due to the deterioration and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the completion date has been adjusted to 2027.
