In the first 10 months of the year, the volume of goods passing through seaports increased again.

The volume of goods passing through Vietnamese seaports is approximately 750 million tons per year. Removing infrastructure bottlenecks and solving the problem of attracting goods to seaports is crucial.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the first 10 months of 2023, the total volume of goods passing through seaports showed a positive trend. Specifically, the total volume of goods handled by sea vessels in October was estimated at nearly 7 million tons, an increase of 27.62% compared to the same period last year. The cumulative volume for the first 10 months reached 624 million tons, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2022. Export volume decreased slightly by about 1%, but imports grew more strongly, by about 5%.

In the first nine months of 2023, the volume of goods handled through seaports reached 564.917 million tons (excluding transit goods not unloaded at the port), an increase of 3%.

Specifically, exports decreased by 1%, reaching 132.743 million tons; imports increased by 5%, reaching 165.342 million tons. Domestic goods also increased by 3%, reaching 264.764 million tons, and transit goods handled reached 2,068 thousand tons.

The volume of goods handled through seaports is estimated at 624 million tons, an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year.

Notably, after months of decline, some areas have seen a resurgence in cargo throughput at seaports, such as Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong. Specifically, cargo throughput at Ho Chi Minh City ports increased by 2.72%; Quang Ninh by 4.8%; and Hai Phong by 0.8% compared to the same period last year.

Regarding containerized cargo volume through seaports, the volume of containerized cargo handled through seaports in the first 10 months of this year also decreased by approximately 3%, estimated at 20.29 million TEUs.

Some areas saw an increase in container throughput, such as Dong Thap (up 68%), Quy Nhon (up 21.28%), Dong Nai (up 21%), and Nghe An (up 10%) compared to the same period last year. However, areas with high container throughput such as Ho Chi Minh City experienced slight decreases of 3.7%, Vung Tau (down 11%), and Hai Phong (down 1.7%).

Some areas recorded increases in cargo volume, such as Nha Trang (up 16.86%), Nghe An (up 17%), Dong Nai (up 10%), Can Tho (up 29%), and Binh Thuan (up 21%). Areas with smaller cargo volumes, such as Dong Thap and Thua Thien-Hue, saw significant increases, rising by 59% and 44.21% respectively compared to the same period last year.
