The Vietnam Center for Doping and Sports Medicine has just announced the penalties for Vietnamese track and field athletes who tested positive for doping at the 31st SEA Games. These athletes have had their competition results annulled, their medals revoked, and have been banned from competing for a specified period.
The Vietnamese sports delegation had 5 athletes who tested positive for doping at the Games a year ago: Hoang Thi Ngoc (gold medal in 4x400m relay), Khuat Phuong Anh (gold medal in 800m, silver medal in 1500m), Le Ngoc Phuc (silver medal in 400m, silver medal in 4x400m relay), Quach Thi Lan (gold medal in 400m hurdles, gold medal in 4x400m relay, bronze medal in 400m), and Vu Thi Ngoc Ha (gold medal in long jump, silver medal in triple jump).
Quách Thị Lan has been banned from competing for 18 months.

The Vietnamese sports delegation lost two gold medals in the women's 4x400m relay and the women's 800m relay. In the women's long jump and 400m hurdles, the gold medals were awarded to the second-placed athletes, who were also representatives of the Vietnamese delegation (Bui Thi Thu Thao in the long jump and Nguyen Thi Huyen in the 400m hurdles).
Explaining the reason for testing positive for banned substances, athlete Quách Thị Lan said: " During training (in preparation for SEA Games 31 - PV), I did not use any medication. When competing, I only took one packet of the supplement to stay more alert. Before using it, I consulted with my doctor about the ingredients and was given permission to use it."
However, this is a new drug that has just been released onto the market, so we didn't anticipate everything. We all used the same drug, so we all tested positive for doping ."
