A Chateraise factory
The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper on June 17 reported on the situation of a group of Vietnamese workers who signed contracts with Chateraise and were granted work visas in Japan.
Accordingly, these Vietnamese workers should have been assigned jobs as early as February at the company's new factory in Yamanashi Prefecture. However, the factory opening was postponed, forcing them to wait an average of 2.5 months without receiving any allowances.
Following media reports in Japan, representatives from Chateraise stated that they would arrange work for the workers starting June 19th and provide allowances at the beginning of July.
According to Kyodo News, some of the affected workers have started returning to work.
Chateraise acknowledged the inconvenience and concern it had caused to foreign workers. The company promised to prevent similar situations from recurring in the future.
The Vietnamese workers mentioned came to Japan under visas issued to workers with specific skills, under a mechanism established by the Tokyo government in 2019 to attract more foreign workers to work in the country.
In total, 12 occupations are eligible for this visa type, including construction, nursing care, and food and beverage production.
Kyodo reports that there are currently around 200,000 foreign workers in Japan under this type of visa.
