Egypt hosts multinational exercise Bright Star

Egypt Today reported that the Egyptian armed forces announced that the Bright Star multinational military exercise has kicked off at the Mohamed Naguib military base in Marsa Matrouh with the participation of more than 8,000 soldiers from 19 countries.

The Egyptian Defense Ministry said the exercise also involved 15 other countries as observers, members of the civilian police force and several legal experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In addition to the Mohamed Naguib military base combat training area, the exercise will take place at several other naval and air force bases in Egypt. Bright Star 2023 is expected to last until September 14.

The exercise, which has been held every two years since 1980, aims to strengthen coordination between countries in maintaining regional security, fighting terrorism and preventing the spread of extremism.
